NYC: SUNDAY JAZZ BRUNCH WITH GABRIELLE STRAVELLI

Bistro Award winning vocalist, Gabrielle Stravelli, returns with her Sunday Jazz Brunch on August 11th at LE PESCADEUX (90 Thompson Street, NYC - 212-966-0021), a French restaurant in the heart of Soho. They will play three sets from 12:30 to 4:00 pm. She will be joined by Saul Rubin on guitar and Pat O'Leary on bass in this charming boite that offers a great, well-priced menu and cozy atmosphere. Award-winning vocalist Gabrielle Stravelli has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal following through her unique take on material from the new American songbook as well as classic standards by artists as varied as Pink Floyd and Duke Ellington, Dolly Parton and Johnny Mercer. A trained actor, Gabrielle has a soulful sensitivity for the story in the lyric. Gabrielle has performed on stages from Amsterdam to New York including Carnegie Hall, Iridium Jazz Club, Birdland, and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Reservations are strongly suggested. "Portrait Of Oscar Peterson" will be performed by The Peter Beets Trio at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Sunday, August 10th at 11:30 am abd 1:30 pm as part of the clubs Sunday Jazz Brunch series. Peter Beets is one of the most recognized piano giants of our time. He is acclaimed and praised worldwide and his star keeps on rising, while his creativity keeps increasing. In variable musical activities, from the accompaniment of 'first lady of jazz' Rita Reys or guests of the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw to latin-jazz and his timeless arrangements of classical music, Beets' personality and signature are always unmistakably audible. The many awards he has received through the years are the Edison (Dutch Grammy, 2010), the Prix Martial Solal (1998) and the Pall Mall Export Swing Award (1988). In spite of his relatively young age, Beets made a substantial number of impressive recordings, most notably 7 CDs for the renowned Criss Cross label, recorded in New York. TORONTO: SUNDAY BRUNCH WITH FLORIAN HOEFNER

Jazz pianist and composer Florian Hoefner will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Sunday, August 10th at 11:30 am as part of the club's Sunday Brunch series. Hoefner has toured extensively throughout Europe, the US, and Canada. His performances are featured on ten CD releases, including a collaboration with renowned guitarist, Kurt Rosenwinkel. He has been heard at major festivals across Europe, such as Jazz Baltica in Salzau, Germany, the Bohemia Jazz Fest in the Czech Republic and the Tremplin Jazz Festival in Avignon, France, where his band Subtone was the recipient of both the jury and audience awards. He shared the stage with the likes of Joe Lovano, Seamus Blake, Rich Perry, John Riley and Tim Ries. With his New York-based Florian Hoefner Group he has released two critically acclaimed albums on OA2 Records and has performed over 60 shows in Europe and North America up to date. In April 2014 Florian appeared solo piano at the Blues Alley in Washington D.C. as part of their Piano Jazz Series that also included fellow pianists Chick Corea, Cyrus Chestnut and Taylor Eigsti. There is an $8 cover.
