NYC: BARRET IS BACK ON RESTAURANT ROW
Chris Barrett returns to LA RIVISTA RISTORANTE (313 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-366-4603) on Monday, May 19th, where he will be at the piano Mondays through Wednesdays. There are two shows nightly, a dinner show at 8:00 and a supper show at 10:00 pm. Chris Barrett's performances are in the tradition of the great late-night boites of a fondly remembered era, when the likes of Hugh Shannon, Bobby Short, and Buddy Barnes manned the keyboard. There is no cover charge.
NYC: JAZZ LEGEND ANNIE ROSS TUESDAYS THE METROPOLITAN ROOM
Jazz legend Annie Ross continues her unprecedented, record-breaking, multi-year run at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), every Tuesday night at 9:30 pm. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. Annie Ross is one of the pioneers of vocalese and the composer of "Twisted", one of the most well known examples of that art, as well as "Farmers Market", "Jackie" and many others. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese. "Twisted" has been recorded by a host of vocalists, including some not normally associated with jazz, including Joni Mitchell and Bette Midler. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: JUDY TENUTA AT THE METROPOLITAN ROOM
Stage, Television and Comedy Star Judy Tenuta will perform at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Tuesday & Wednesday, July 1st & 2nd at 7:00 pm. Judy is a triple threat in the sense that she has strong stage, television, comedy and film credits with a large fan base. She has appeared in" The Vagina Monologues", "Menopause the Musical" both in LA and Chicago, and she's had her own stand-up specials on Showtime, HBO and Lifetime. Judy was the first female stand-up comic to win "Best Female Comedian" at the American Comedy Awards and is a two-time Grammy nominee for her comedy CD'S, "Attention Butt-Pirates" and "Lesbetarians!" and "In Goddess We Trust". That same year, she became the national spokesperson for a series of Diet Dr. Pepper commercials. In addition to her presence on stage and television, Tenuta has also appeared in many film and recently completed 2 independent films. Tenuta is a strong advocate for gays, children and women's issues, the fun-loving feminist preaches that all women should be worshipped as "Love Goddesses!" There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: CHUCK COOPER WITH JAZZ POETRY AT 54 BELOW
Tony Award winner Chuck Cooper (The Life; Caroline, or Change; Finian's Rainbow) brings his exciting new show to 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551 - / ) on Tuesdays, July 1st & 8th at 7:00 pm. Jazz Poetry brings together an impressive array of composers who have set to music the poems of the Diaspora. Jazz Poetry is the beat that runs through the Harlem Renaissance, the Civil Rights movement, rap, slam, the whole shabam! The poets Langston Hughes, Dr. Maya Angelou, Gil Scott-Heron, Sonia Sanchez, Amiri Baraka, and Oscar Brown Jr. have given us their words. Jazz Poetry will give you their music! There is a $30-$40 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
NYC: THE SKIVVIES RETURN TO 54 BELOW
The undie-rock, comedy-pop duo The Skivvies return to 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Tuesday, July 1st at 9:30 pm. The Skivvies don't just strip down their musical arrangements, they literally strip down to their underwear to perform their distinctive mashups and eccentric originals for cello and ukulele, with touches of glockenspiel, melodica, and a surprising array of under-used instruments. Award-winning singer-actors Lauren Molina (Marry Me a Little, Sweeney Todd, Rock of Ages) and Nick Cearley (All Shook Up) became YouTube sensations as The Skivvies, with living room videos that displayed their powerful harmonies as well as their powerful abs. They also have a single and music video directed by Augusten Burroughs, bestselling author of Running With Scissors. There is a $30-40 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.

Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks are back - and now will play every Monday & Tuesday night from 8:00 to 11:00 pm at at IGUANA'S VIP LOUNGE (240 West 54th Street, NYC - 212-765-5454). Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks is an eleven-piece band playing music of the 1920s & 30s for your dining and dancing pleasure. In 1976 Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks (originally known as the New Orleans Nighthawks) was formed. A big-band historian and collector, Giordano has more than 60,000 scores in his collection.
