NYC: ERIC COMSTOCK & BARBARA FASANO "ON THE SUNNY SIDE"

Award-winning artists Eric Comstock & Barbara Fasano celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary later this summer, but first they bring their show "On The Sunny Side" to BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Sunday, June 29th at 6:00 pm. Sultry, swinging and surprising, they'll turn Sunday supper at Birdland into a fabulous party where the stories are as great as the music. Their electrifying combination of warmth, wit, swing and sensuality have made them the nightclub world's most celebrated team, are every bit as entertaining as they are musically savvy. The multiple MAC, Bistro and New York Nightlife Award winners (they were honored with the 2013 MAC award for Major Duo Artists of the Year) are regular performers at New York's most prestigious clubs and concert halls. Although they've been compared to Nick and Nora, Fred and Ginger, and Lunt and Fontanne, the "golden couple's" style is all their own, with a wide choice of material that brings the generations together. Whether the song is by Cole Porter or Paul Simon, Duke Ellington or Joni Mitchell, Comstock and Fasano make it fresh and new, and their audiences feel they've been to a terrific party where the music and the stories have been equally great. There is a $30 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

N.Y. STATE: ECHOING BACK: THE SONGS OF JOHNNY MERCER

Fort Salem Theater once again provides a launching pad for new musical material as Broadway dance guru Karin Baker (42nd Street, Me and My Girl) introduces to the world-at-large her new concert salute to Broadway and Hollywood songwriter Johnny Mercer, in her show 'Echoing Back: The Songs of Johnny Mercer' at The MAINSTAGE AT FORT SALEM THEATER(11 East Broadway, Salem, NY - 518-854-9200) for one weekend only, Friday & Saturday, June 27th & 28th at 8:00 pm and Sunday, June 29th at 2:00 pm. Born in 1909 in Savannah, Georgia, Johnny Mercer wrote lyrics prodigiously from the 1930's to the 1970's, winning four Original Song Academy Awards and scoring dozens of recognizable hits. His Oscar songs, "On the Atchison, Topeka, and the Santa Fe" (1946), "In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening" (1951), "Moon River" (1961), and "The Days of Wine and Roses" (1962) only begin to document Mercer's lasting effect on pop music in the twentieth century. Whether it was his early Hollywood lyric collaborations with Richard Whiting ("Too Marvelous for Words" and "Hooray for Hollywood") or his bi-coastal collaborations with Harold Arlen ("Blues in the Night," "Old Black Magic," "One for My Baby," "Come Rain or Come Shine"), or his own music and lyrics in "Dream," "I Wanna Be Around," and "G.I. Jive," his songs illustrate how an era's music could reflect a smoldering sensuality that bespeaks a romanticism unequaled in our modern era of blatantly obscene lyrics. Karin Baker has taken these songs and more written by Johnny Mercer and woven them into a performance of song and dance with three Broadway performers and Fort Salem's own artistic director, Jay Kerr, featuring Granville CSD music teacher Tim Patrick on bass. Call for cover/minimum information.

PALM SPRINGS, CA: JANE KINSEY MAKES HER DESERT DEBUT

Singer and actor Jane Kinsey's hit one-woman musical cabaret show "The Kinsey Report: The Doctor Is In" will make it's desert debut at THE ARTHUR NEWMAN THEATRE at the JOSLYN CENTER (73-750 Catalina Way, Palm Desert, CA - TKTS: 760-325-2731) on Sunday, June 29th at 2:00 pm as part of Les Michaels' Sundays In Summer Series. This show, which highlights the neuroses of various patients through an eclectic mix of songs along with some very clever patter, has been playing to sold out audiences throughout the Los Angeles area with glowing reviews. "The Kinsey Report: The Doctor Is In" was conceived by Jane Kinsey because of her shared last name with the author of the famous sex therapy book published in 1948. Along with co-writer and director Clifford Bell, they selected songs that could fit the various conditions found in the book such as Screw Loose from "Cry-Baby The Musical", I'm Tired from Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles", Another Mr. Right Left by Jonathan Sheffer & David Zippel, Carol Hall's My Empty Next, and I Don't Want To Be Somebody Else by Kathie Lee Gifford & David Friedman, and more, plus a few songs from the musical "Hats", in which Jane spent the good part of a year performing in Las Vegas. Joining Jane will be her musical director Tim Butterworth on the baby grand piano. There is an $11 cover - cash at the door.
