TODAY'S CABARET PICK - NEW ENGLAND: AMAZING THINGS OPEN MIC FEATURING PAUL CHAMPLIN
Every second Wednesday of the month Leslie Holmes hosts an amazing Open Mic night at the AMAZING THINGS ARTS CENTER(160 Hollis Street, Framingham, MA - 508-405-2787), and each show features a special guest. On Wednesday, March 12th the featured guest will be Paul Champlin. Paul Champlin was raised on musical and dramatic theater and over the years, has performed in countless productions for Massachusetts and Rhode Island performance companies. He was introduced to cabaret in 1994, studied with Helen Baldassare and began a long-time collaboration with musician/arranger Doug Hammer. Paul was subsequently featured in a string of cabaret performances including his one-man show, "Shades of Darkness, Shades of Light" in 2000. In the ensuing years, Paul has developed and directed multiple, highly-regarded dramas and musicals for Enter Stage Left Theater of Hopkinton, a company he established in 1982 with a group of High School friends, including Twelve Angry Men, Arsenic and Old Lace, Godspell, Deathtrap, and A USO Christmas, a big band tribute to the USO shows of World War II. HIs cabaret performances meld original works with old and new songs from various genres including cabaret, jazz, stage, film, and pop/rock. Pianist for the open mic is Doug Hammer. The open-mic starts at 7:00 pm (signup at 6:30 pm), and the featured performers go on at 8:10 pm. There is an $10 cover charge ($9 cover for BACA members).
