NYC: BILLY STRITCH "I'VE GOT YOUR NUMBER: THE JAZZ OF CY COLEMAN"
Billy Stritch brings his show "I've Got Your Number: The Jazz of Cy Coleman" to BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Mondays, March 3rd & 10th at 7:00 pm as part of the Broadway at Birdland series. In this brand new show, Billy Stritch explores the pop/jazz side of the legendary songwriter Cy Coleman. Although Coleman is mainly known as the composer of a dozen legendary Broadway shows, he was quite prolific writing "stand alone" songs in the 50's and 60's, including such well-known titles as "The Best Is Yet To Come," "Witchcraft" and "It Amazes Me,"as well as more obscure gems co-written with Carolyn Leigh and Peggy Lee. This show was recently presented in London to rave reviews, receiving 4 Stars in the LondonTimes. In this outing, Stritch will be accompanied by Tom Hubbard on bass and Ray Marchica on drums. There is a $30-$40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

Every Monday night at 9:30 pm, Broadway impresario Jim Caruso hosts "Cast Party", a combination open-mic, networking event and party atBIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) during which the biggest stars on Broadway relax on their night off by performing their favorite songs in an informal setting. Cast Party is a mix of music, impromptu performance and cocktail party revelry, where showbiz superstars, stunning jazz talents and cabaret glitterati hit the stage alongside up-and-comers to serve up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle. It's the ultimate spot to mix and mingle with talented show folk and their fans. There is a $20 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
NYC: THE OMAR HAKIM EXPERIENCE - CD RELEASE CELEBRATION CONCERT
Ozmosis Records Presents The Omar Hakim Experience - CD Release Celebration Concert at THE BLUE NOTE(131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Monday, March 10th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Featured are Chieli Minucci, guitar; Gregoire Maret, harmonica; Bob Franceschini, sax and flute; Scott Tibbs, keyboards; Rachel Z, keyboards; Jerry Brooks, bass; and Omar Hakim, drums. Widely acclaimed for his versatility, technological prowess and groove, Omar Hakim is one of the most successful drummers and session men of the past 40 years. Omar has collaborated with dozens of prominent artists including Daft Punk, George Benson, Lionel Richie, Chaka Khan, Anita Baker, Bobby McFerrin, John Scofield, Urban Knights, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Celine Dion, Jewel, J-Lo, D'Angelo, Mariah Carey, and Madonna to name a few, and has left his imprint on hundreds of recordings, including several under his own name. There is a $15-$25 cover.
NYC: NEW YORK YOUTH SYMPHONY JAZZ BAND AT DIZZY'S
New York Youth Symphony Jazz Band will perfrom atDIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Monday, March 10th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. The New York Youth Symphony (NYYS) is the most awarded youth program of its kind in the nation, recognized for its innovative, tuition-free educational programs for talented young musicians. The jazz program is modeled on the big bands of the 1930s and 1940s, and its 17-member band aims to preserve and share this heritage. This evening's gig will feature jazz from the big screen, including selections from films such as Black Orpheus, Paris Blues, and Laura. Terell Stafford joins the NYYS Jazz band at this gig.
