CAPE COD: "WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW - A MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO BURT BACHARACH"

COTUIT CENTER FOR THE ARTS(4404 Route 28, Cotuit, MA - 508-428-0669) presents "What the World Needs Now - A Musical Tribute to Burt Bacharach" on Fridays & Saturdays at 7:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm, March 7th through 16th. The musical revue has been a lifelong dream for Ruth Condon who is producing, directing, and performing in the show along with Sarah Swain, Cerise Bynoe, Emily Wade Adams, Anthony Teixeira, and Tom Tracy. Condon appreciates the music, the harmonies, the varied time signatures and the difficulty of singing Bacharach's songs. The show will feature 29 songs written between 1958 and 1995, including "Walk on By," "Wishin' and Hopin,'" Alfie," "Heartlight," and "This House is Empty Now," a collaboration with Elvis Costello. The show will also feature anecdotes and short vignettes, including projected images and video. Pianist Mike Garvan will lead the band, which includes George Machon on trumpet, flute, fluglehorn and percussion, Steve Silverstein on drums, Tad Price on electric & nylon string guitar and Ron Ormsby on upright and electric bass. The singers will add to the instrumental mix, with Tracy playing harmonica and Swain on ukulele and guitar. Tickets are $20-$25.

TORONTO: DINNER WITH THE CANADIAN MEN'S CHORUS

On Sunday March 9th, the Canadian Men's Chorus will hold its first-ever fundraising CABARET at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Sunday, March 9th featuring the men of CMC and some special guests for a Sunday of classic showtunes, smoky ballads, contemporary pop songs and much more. The brunch show is at 12:30 pm and the dinner show at 7:00 pm. There will be a silent auction as well! Now in its fourth exciting season, the Canadian Men's Chorus was co-founded in 2010 by Arlene Jillard and Artistic Director Greg Rainville to present high quality performances of classical repertoire, both traditional and contemporary, with a focus on Canadian music. There is a $20 cover.

TORONTO: DON FRANCKS: SUNDAY NIGHT AT THE JAZZ CELLAR

THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) is excited to present legendary vocalist Don Francks as part of a new series taking place Sunday evenings in March at 8:00 pm in the Jazz Cellar, their beautiful 3rd floor lounge. He is joined by Steve Hunter on keys. When Don Francks opens his mouth to sing, he takes his audience on a journey. This celebrated singer and actor is widely regarded as one of the finest and most authentic jazz voices in Canada, having released several recordings including "Jackie Gleason Says: No One in This World is Like Don Francks" (with guitar legend Lenny Breau) , "Lost and Alone" (featuring orchestra arrangements by conductor Patrick Williams) and the original motion-picture soundtrack to Finian's Rainbow; among others. Francks has starred in many CBC television specials with jazz compatriots Jimmy Dale, Guido Basso, pianist Maury Kaye and the late, great Ron Collier. Then, in the sixties he moved to New York City where he performed on The Jackie Gleason Show, sang at The Blue Angel, and recorded a live album at the Village Vanguard. He also made several appearances on the Johnny Carson, Mike Douglas, Dick Cavett and Merv Griffin shows. Next stop: Hollywood, where he guest-starred in shows like The Wild Wild West, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Mannix, and Mission: Impossible. "La Femme Nikita", "The Listener", "My Bloody Valentine" and "I'm Not There". His list of work as a voice-over artist for ads and cartoons is simply too vast to even begin mentioning! At 82 years young, Francks has just released "21st Century Francks," a live recording captured in 2002 at The Top O' the Senator. He will be performing songs from the CD, with many surprises in store along the way. There is a $5 cover.

D.C.: LEE RITENOUR AT BLUES ALLEY

Lee Ritenour will perform atBLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Thursday through Sunday, March 6th through 9th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. It's been a long road since the seventies, when Ritenour's legendary Tuesday night appearances at the famed Baked Potato became part of the D.C. musical landscape for five years. Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, George Benson, Al Jarreau, and even Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell could be seen in the audiences that would pack the house. From rock to blues to jazz, his diverse music became foundation of over 3,000 sessions as a young guitarist with a broad spectrum of artists. Call for cover/minimum information.

D.C.: LISA SOKOLOV DUO AT BOHEMIAN CAVERNS

The Lisa Sokolov Duo performs at BOHEMIAN CAVERNS (2001 Eleventh Street N.W., Washington, DC - 202-299-0800) on Sunday, March 9th at 7:00 pm. Lisa Sokolov is a frontline New York jazz vocalist, improviser and composer. Her work embraces the best of new music, free and straight ahead jazz. Her recordings angel Rodeo, Lazy Afternoon, Presence and A Quiet Thing have all received Best CD of the Year citations and press kudos. Sokolov is the originator of the method of Embodied VoiceWork, a vocal improvisation method which she teaches at The Experimental Theater Wing at New York University, Tisch School of the Arts where she is a Full Arts Professor. Before her full time appointment at Tisch, Sokolov was on the faculty of The Graduate Program of Music Therapy at NYU for ten years. There is a $15 cover.

MARYLAND: MAGGIE ROSE WITH THE WALKING STICKS

Maggie Rose with The Walking Sticks perform at BETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500) on Sunday, March 9th at 7:30 pm. Since the release of her debut album, CUT TO IMPRESS, dynamic vocalist Maggie Rose has garnered national attention from media and fans alike. Produced by Blake Chancey and James Stroud, the album features the breakthrough Top 30 hits "I Ain't Your Mama" and "Better." The project highlights Maggie's songwriting prowess on nearly half of the tracks. She recently opened for Gary Allan and Sheryl Crow on the FREE & EASY Tour. The Potomac, Maryland native is currently getting ready for the release of her next single from CUT TO IMPRESS, "Looking Back Now." The Walking Sticks is the outfit of twin brothers Max and Spencer Ernst and their soulful beyond her years lead singer Chelsea Lee. The group from Silver Spring Md took off in 2011 as a vehicle for deep roots grooves and harmony but the Sticks have recently taken a few leaps into much different territory. After touring the more meditative and heavily acoustic debut album World So Bright, the twins began accumulating an arsenal of old synthesizers from around town. More importantly, they signed on their long time friend and collaborator Chelsea Lee in 2012. Tickets are $15-$30.
