She will be backed by the K&T Jazz trio in a hilarious parody of the upper classes with songs about politics, plastic surgery, global trouble hotspots, French Emigrees in London, the recession, bad cabaret and toyboys. Drawing her inspiration from German Weimar Cabaret, Melinda shares her experience as an Edinburgh Fringe virgin with special guests; hilarious singer songwriter Rachel Parris and comedians Michael Legge and Phil Nichol. LONDON: BILLY STRITCH SINGS JAZZ OF CY COLEMAN
Billy Stritch's new show, 'I've Got Your Number - The Jazz Of Cy Coleman' will be performed at THE CRAZY COQS AT BRASSERIE ZEDEL (20 Sherwood St, Piccadilly, London W1F 7ED - 020 7734 4888 - ) on Tuesday through Saturday, October 15th through 19th at 8:00 pm. The show celebrates the music of one of Broadway and pop music's greatest composers and includes selections from many of his Broadway shows (Little Me, Sweet Charity, City Of Angels) as well as great pop standards (The Best Is Yet To Come, It Amazes Me, Witchcraft). Billy Stritch is one of the premier singer-pianists on the New York and international jazz and cabaret scene and has performed in London many times, both as a solo artist and as accompanist to Liza Minnelli. His most recent Broadway credit was as musical supervisor and pianist for Liza Minnelli's Tony Award winning show Liza's At The Palace, for which he also reconceived the vocal arrangements of the legendary Kay Thompson and The Williams Brothers. In addition to his twenty-two year association with Liza, Billy also accompanies and arranges for Linda Lavin, Marilyn Maye, and Paulo Szot. On stage, he originated the role of Oscar, the rehearsal pianist in the 2001 Broadway revival of 42nd Street, performing the role 488 times. He is the winner of the BMI Million-Seller Award, Music City News Top Ten Song of the Year, and numerous Backstage and Manhattan Cabaret Awards. In his lengthy career, Cy Coleman wrote with some of the greatest lyricists of the 20th century, including Dorothy Fields, Carolyn Leigh and Camden and Green, and his songs have been recorded by virtually every great singer of the golden age of popular music, including Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Judy Garland and Peggy Lee.
