CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: SIMPLY BARBRA CELEBRATES MARVIN HAMLISCH IN "MOSTLY MARVIN"

Steven Brinberg's Simply Barbra and Special Guest Erik Altemus (from the Broadway production of PIPPIN), will celebrate the music of the late, great Marvin Hamlisch on Monday, September 9th at 7:00 pm at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080 ). Selections ranging from the expected ("The Way We Were") to seldom heard gems like the alternate to that famous song known as "The Way We Weren't." Also included will be rarities like "Hearts Not Diamonds," originally sung by Lauren Bacall in THE FAN, and a song Hamlisch wrote for a revised version ofthe musical Ballroom. Hamlisch met Streisand in the Broadway production of Funny Girl, so expect some tunes from that beloved musicals well. Brinberg knew Mr. Hamlisch well, and worked with him in concert on many occasions. Steven Brinberg writes and stars as Simply Barbra, which is updated annually as he travels the globe with the show. He has appeared with the late Marvin Hamlisch and the Symphony Orchestras of Dallas, Milwaukee, Buffalo and Norfolk. Prior appearances with Mr. Hamlisch include one with Barbara Cook and the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center and another at Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh. He recently narrated the New York City Gay Men's Chorus concert at Avery Fisher Hall and in Seattle, written especially for him by Terrence McNally. Mr. Brinberg has performed at Stephen Sondheim's birthday concert at the Library of Congress, at Carnegie Hall with Uptown Express, and on Broadway in the concert version of Funny Girl with Whoopi Goldberg. There is a $30 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
