CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: MILTON SUGGS MAKES HIS DIZZY'S CLUB DEBUT
Jazz vocalist Milton Suggs makes his DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) debut on Wednesday, September 11th at 7:30 pm. He is joined on stage by Linton Smith, trumpet; Godwin Louis, alto sax; Willerm Delisfort, piano; Noah Jackson, bass; Jeremy Bean Clemons, drums. The show is a tribute to some of his favorite male vocalists, including Oscar Brown Jr. and Joe Williams, with a single set entitled "Looking Back, Moving Forward - Our Past, Our Future; The Music." Encouraged to pursue vocals professionally by Wynton Marsalis, Suggs draws influence from the past century and beyond of jazz, soul, and R&B, studying artists from Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, and Jon Hendricks, to Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and Marvin Gaye. The result is primarily a blend of jazz and R&B, and though jazz generally takes the lead role instrumentally, with extended forms and plenty of solos from the band, one style rarely defines the sound. With a clear nod to R&B, the vocals are smooth and catchy, making for an overall performance that will be widely appealing to fans of male vocalists from different genres and backgrounds. The Coca-Cola Generations in Jazz Festival showcases an array of up-and-coming musicians alongside some of today's most established jazz masters. There is a $30 cover.
