BALTIMORE: FATHER'S DAY CONCERT BY TODD MARCUS JAZZ ORCHESTRA
Todd Marcus Jazz Orchestra presents a special Father's Day concert at 14KARAT CABARET (218 West Saratoga Street, Baltimore, MD - 410-963-4253 - ) on Sunday, June 16th with sets from 5:00 to 8:00 pm featuring acclaimed saxophonist and composer Gary Thomas. A veteran of bands by Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, and Jack DeJohnette, Thomas is also the Director and Chair of Jazz Studies at Peabody Institute. The performance follows-up Marcus' recent quartet album (named one of the top 10 jazz albums of 2012 by NPR) and celebrates his jazz orchestra's 10 year anniversary with jazz standards and originals including his Middle Eastern suite Blues for Tahrir. The work chronicles the Arab Spring movement in Egypt and represents Marcus' homage to his Egyptian-American heritage by merging jazz and Middle Eastern music. Members of the orchestra include Todd Marcus (bass clarinet), Gary Thomas (tenor sax), Alex Norris (trumpet), Alan Ferber (trombone), Russell Kirk (alto sax), Brent Birkhead (flute & alto sax), Alex Brown (piano), Jeff Reed (bass), Eric Kennedy (drums), Irene Jalenti (vocals). $35 show/dinner, $25 show only.
