NYC CABARET TONIGHT: ERIC ALEXANDER AND THE HAROLD MABERN QUINTET AT DIZZY'S
Eric Alexander and the Harold Mabern Quintet (with Eddie Henderson, trumpet; Joe Farnsworth, drums; and John Webber, bass) perform atDIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Thursday through Sunday, June 20th through 23rd with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Since veteran pianist Harold Mabern (77) first took saxophonist Eric Alexander (45) as a student in the late 1980s, they have recorded over twenty albums together. Mabern's storied career includes working with artists such as Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard, Miles Davis, and Sonny Rollins, and Alexander has similarly spent the past two decades recording and performing with some of jazz's greats, as well as building his own large and respected body of work. The chemistry between these two artists runs deep, and within the straight-ahead jazz and bop idioms they call home, both players stand out for their melodies, memorable improvised phrasing, and undeniable technical chops.
