TODAY IN NYC: GRACE COSGROVE SINGS LAURA NYRO AT THE METROPOLITAN ROOM
Grace Cosgrove sets off on a long-term project dedicated to the music of Laura Nyro on Sunday, October 3rd at 4:00 pm at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 - ). Laura Nyro was an innovative and prolific singer-songwriter in the 60's and 70's. Her early albums The First Songs, Eli and the Thirteenth Confession and New York Tendaberry, melded pop, folk, jazz, R&B, gospel, and even Broadway influences into a strikingly original sound. Some of her most famous songs were: "Wedding Bell Blues," "Eli's Comin'," "Stoney End," "And When I Die," and "Stoned Soul Picnic." Musical director is Don Rebic, with Courtney Sappington on Guitar, Dan Gross on Drums, Jason DiMatteo on Bass with backup vocals by Margaret Dorn, Emily Bindiger and Diane Garisto. There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
