NYC: MARISSA MULDER BRINGS BACK TOM WAITS TRIBUTE

NYC: MARISSA MULDER BRINGS BACK TOM WAITS TRIBUTE

Marissa Mulder's acclaimed show "Tom ... in His Words" featuring the music and poetry of Tom Waits returns to theTHE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Tuesday, May 7th at 9:30 pm and Wednesday, May 8th at 7:00 pm. Mulder's journey into the dark, thorny and ofter hilarious world of this iconic American rocker, is directed by Lauren Fox, with music direction by Jon Weber with a trio that includes Ritt Henn on bass and Mike Rosengarten on guitar. In "Tom ... in His Words" Mulder performs Waits classics ("Downtown Train" and "Ol' 55") as well as some lesser-known treasures like "Broken Bicycles" and "Alice." All along the way, she recharges the 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee's strange mixture of rock, jazz and the blues (and even vaudeville) with a current that while different, couldn't be more true. The 2011 MetroStar Talent Challenge winner made her cabaret debut in 2010 at Don't Tell Mama, followed that with her critically acclaimed tribute to songwriter Jimmy Van Heusen in 2011. Her previous engagement at the Metropolitan Room in 2012, "Illusions," was directed by singer Karen Oberlin. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
