NYC: CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE 25th ANNIVERSARY SHOW TO BE PRESENTED BY THE METROPOLITAN ROOM ON TUESDAY, JULY 7th

THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) will produce and present the 25th ANNIVERSARY GALA OF CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE on Tuesday, July 7th at 7:00 pm as part of their 'This is Your Night' series. Co-Producers will be Bernie Furshpan and Sue Matsuki. The show will also celebrate the 76th Birthday of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE Editor/ Writer/ Reviewer/ Stu Hamstra. Here are a few items about cabaret and cabaret performers gleaned from the latest issues of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE!

Comic/singer Joan Jaffe is moving her new show "Funnier Than Ever" out of cabaret to The Dorothy Strelsin Theatre of the Abingdon Theatre Complex (312 West 36th Street, NYC - 866-811-4111) on Sunday, April 12th at 7:00 pm. She is joined mbt musical director Matt Baker with Adam Kabak on bass. She will be singing songs by Burton Lane, Leslie Bricusse, Murray Grand, John Myer, Al Hoffman, and more. Tickets are $25. She promises to move the show to a real cabaret space soon.

Vocalist/host Harold Sanditen has started on his :world tour" with a show Tuesday through Thursday, March 31st through April 2nd at 8:00 pm at THE CRAZY COQS AT BRASSERIE ZEDEL(20 Sherwood St, Piccadilly, London W1F 7ED - 020 7734 4888) with additional performances scheduled for Martinis Above Fourth in San Diego; Arthur Newman Theater at the Joslyn Center in Palm Desert, CA; Rockwell: Table + Stage in San Diego, CA; Society Cabaret in San Francisco, CA; The Metropolitan Room in NYC; Club RaYE in Paris, FRANCE; with a final stop in Kotor, MONTENEGRO!

Vickie Phillips will take her show out of a cabaret room to a library space on Sunday, April 26th at 1:00 pm. The place to be is THE SPRINGFIELD DOWNTOWN LIBRARY (220 State Street, Springfield, MA - 413-263-6828) as part of their Spring Concert Series. Musical director is Michael Rheault. Free admission.



On Thursday, April 2nd, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, New York's DRAMA BOOK SHOP (250 West 40th Street - near Eighth Avenue, NYC) will host the launch of the new book about a boy who grew up at Manhattan's Algonquin Hotel, Michael Elihu Colby (a real-life counterpart to Eloise of the Plaza)! Performing will be stars of the Algonquin's Oak Room, Steve Ross (who opened the room), Broadway's Tovah Feldshuh, and K.T. Sullivan (now head of the Mabel Mercer Foundation and Lincoln Center Cabaret Convention). Other guest stars (singing numbers from Colby shows) include Tony Sheldon (PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT), Klea Blackhurst (EVERYTHING THE TRAFFIC WILL ALLOW), Christina Bianco (FORBIDDEN BROADWAY), Jessica Grove (A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC), Michael Winther (MAMA MIA!) and Jack Urbont (Emmy winning composer). The musical director is Michael Lavine. And there will be refreshments, lots of Algonquin alumni, and book signings.

Jazz Vocalist/ Instrumentalist Daryl Sherman is back in Tokyo, Japan where she will be performing every night at THE TABLEAUX LOUNGE (Sunroser Daikanyama B1, Shibuya, Japan 150-0033 - +81 3 5489 2202 ) through May 30th, with special shows on April 7th & 28th to salute jazz stars Billie Holiday and Blossom Dearie.



"Pompie's Place," a unique pop-up blues supper-club is taking up residence at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) in April. Produced by Arthur Pompesello, "Pompie's Place" is an immersive nightclub experience transporting audiences to a mythic blues room of another time and place, in which the food is hot and the music even hotter! The five scheduled performances are Sunday & Monday April 12th & 13th, both at 7:00 pm; Sunday May 10th (Mother's Day) at 1:00 pm; Monday May 11th at 7:00 pm, and Thursday, May 28th at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $65, which includes a three-course Cajun meal.

Broadway and cabaret star Karen Mason joins a host of MAC and Bistro Award-winning artists singing to benefit the special needs children of PS177Q, to be held at THE ROBIN SUE WARD SCHOOL FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN (56-37 188th Street Fresh Meadows, NY) on Saturday, April 25th. Other first-time performers at this benefit, now in its sixth year, are Karen Oberlin, Marcus Simeone and Susan Winter. Returning this year are 2015 Bistro Award Winner, Marissa Mulder and long-time NYC cabaret favorite Phyllis Pastore. The cast is completed by returning performers Tom Gamblin, master of ceremonies Warren Schein, and Robert Gino, a PS177Q therapist who is the driving force behind this event, which has raised over $60,000 to date. Tracy Stark is musical director with Marco Brehm on bass. The night also includes a raffle with prizes including tickets to Disney's Aladdin on Broadway, a champagne sunset cruise on a 47-foot sailboat yacht a music basket including signed CDs from the evening's performers plus many more raffle baskets. Tickets are $20 and can be reserved by calling the school at 718-357-4650.
