NYC: DON'T TELL MAMA CELEBRATES KAREN MASON ON MARCH 30th - FINAL SHOW OF MASON AT MAMA'S SERIES

DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) will honor the Broadway and cabaret star Karen Mason on Monday, March 30th at 7:00 pm, the final performance of the legendary singer's current ten-show major engagement at the club. Mason, who, with the late great Nancy LaMott, opened the Theater District nightspot in November of 1982, also celebrates her own birthday on that night. Hugging the MARCH IS CABARET MONTH theme, "Mason at Mama's in March" began on March 1st and played the next three Sundays and Mondays: March 15th & 16th; 22nd & 23rd; 29th & 30th. All shows are at 7:00 pm. With music direction by Christopher Denny and stage direction by Barry Kleinbort, Mason's new show delves generously into a treasure trove of classics and original songs she and her longtime musical collaborator Brian Lasser worked on together. It was in a sense the infancy of a new era of cabaret, when genres and styles began to be mixed and the boundaries between cabaret and the theatre began to be blurred. Mason, whose Broadway starring credits include "Mamma Mia," "Sunset Boulevard," "Hairspray," and "Jerome Robbins' Broadway," most recently starred in Frank Wildhorn's "Wonderland." Her most recent single, "It's About Time" (honoring marriage equality), was written by her husband Paul Rolnick and Shelley Markham. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: NEXT NY'S TOP DRAG QUEEN CONTEST AT THE MET

Twelve NYC Drag Queens to fight it out on stage to be crowned 'NYC's Top Drag Queen' at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Monday, March 30th at 7:00 pm. The six-week juried affair, hosted by the Metropolitan Room, begins that date, and through sheer talent and hopefully not a cat fight, NY's Top Drag Queen will be crowned on the finale show on Monday, May 4th, when the series will come to its ultimate climax. The host the series for a second year is one of NYC's most famous Drag Queens, Holly Dae. Dae has been performing in NYC for the past seven years. She started her career back in Boston, and has since gone on to travel all over the US and European countries. Her quick tongue and witty comments have made her audiences laugh and cackle for years. Holly has won such awards as Entertainer of the year on Fire Island, Best Drag Queen by Get Out Magazine, Queen to Watch Out For in 2013 by Next Magazine, Best Drag show by The 2015 Glam Awards, First Runner Up at the National Miss'd America Pageant, and many more. Holly will keep these twelve vigorously pre-screened Drag Queens under control whilst they are judged by not only looks but by how well they sing and entertain. It will be a seemingly unending parade of new outfits, special guests, surprise guest judges and a mystery judge whose identity will only be revealed at the contests over-the-top finale. "New York's Next Top Drag Queen Contest" is produced by the Metropolitan Room and Joseph Macchia. The contest's permanent judges include Arsenio Amadas (Mr Eagle 2013), Frankie C. (columnist for Odyssey Magazine), and Macchia, the MAC and Bistro award-winning cabaret producer of "Cabaret Cares," "Broadway on 22nd Street" and "Boys Night Out." NYC: AURORA BARNES - FAIR GAME

NYC-based singer, songwriter and activist Aurora Barnes will appear on Monday, March 30th at 9:30 pm at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440). Barnens creates fiery music that tells vivid stories of love, heartbreak, joy, struggle and human resiliency, which are all captured on her debut EP, Fair Game. Aurora uses intricate melodies and harmonies as a vehicle for her lyrics, painting pictures that explore themes of unrequited love and sexism, stand-by-your-man resolve and social uprising, disillusionment and desire. Her vocal performances demonstrate her total connection to the material. Aurora has always been fascinated by the ability of musicians to capture complex emotions and the spirit of a particular moment in history. She was raised in uptown Manhattan surrounded by passionate members of the civil rights, women's rights, labor and anti-war movements, learning early on the importance of a life-long commitment to political and social activism. Raised on everyone from Bob Dylan to Stephen Sondheim, Nina Simone to Bonnie Raitt, Aurora grew to understand that the words she spoke and the ones she wrote must be deliberate and meaningful. As a young child Aurora's natural aptitude for music and acting was apparent when she joined TADA! Youth Theater (for musical theater) and Opus 118 East Harlem Violin Program. As a young violinist, she played alongside legends Itzhak Perlman and Isaac Stern and was profiled in the Oscar-nominated documentary Small Wonders. She continued to develop as a singer, storyteller and actress, working with coaches Adrienne Angel and Harold Guskin, and performing in NYC venues like The Bitter End, Nuyorican Poet's Cafe and The Knitting Factory.
