NYC: SAYERA REZA & TANVIR SHAHEEN AT THE MET
Sayera Reza, a well-groomed, seasoned and enormously talented Bangladeshi female singer, performs at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Sunday, March 29th at 1:00 pm along with Tanvir Shaheen, another popular singer from Bangladesh. Sayera has a rare and unique voice signature with a glorious music career for a period over 30 years. Especially she is exquisite in Sufi and Lalon songs. She became an enlisted artist in national TV channel - BTV and Bangladesh Radio since 1997. Her first solo album 'Shukher Omil' was published in 2008. It immediately got the attention of the music lovers. 'Dhar Dharina..' is a very popular and hugely appreciated song of this album. Her second solo album 'Ak Nimishe' was released 2010. She has also been featured in numerous mixed albums. She contributed as a playback singer in several successful Bengali films, including "Common Gender," a transgender-Hindu romance film, that garnered national and international acclaim. Sayera has also earned a reputation for being a very strong live-stage performer. Apart from touring all over Bangladesh, she has performed live musical shows in places like London, Birmingham, Swindon, Brighton, Paris, Brussels, Bangkok, Florida, New York and New Jersey. Sayera is regularly invited to perform at state-level cultural programs and diplomatic functions. She is often invited in UN Secretariat organized high level cultural programmes in New York. In addition to singing, Sayera was a popular teen-television anchor on several of BTV's hit programs. She has also been featured in Bangla movies and TV operas as well. Sayera has enjoyed both national and international acclaim for her Modern, Folk, and Tagore songs. As a singer of extra-ordinary ability, she won several prestigious national awards and was named the 1988 Ministry of Education's top folk singer and was awarded gold medals in both Tagore and Folk Songs by the National Cultural Institute in 1991. Born in Dhaka City, Tanvir Shaheen started learning music in 1984 and formed a band with a few Bangladeshi musicians in 1986 named "Survivors" and performed all over Bangladesh. In 1994, Tanvir Shaheen immigrated to the United States where his singing career spiraled to another height. He started singing as the lead vocalist with the Agaaz and Gemini bands. In 2000, he was managed by the Farook Juman promotions where he performed all over the United States, Canada and South America. In 2004 he received best singer Dallywood Award from show time at Manhattan Center. In Year 2005, he got the best North American Bangla vocalist award. In 2006, Tanvir Shaheen performed at the Bollywood Award in Trump Casino in Atlantic City with renowned Indian performers. In 2011, he went to Guyana and performed with Dobby Dobson. Inspired by Shanaz Rahmattulah, Tanvir Shaheen recorded his first CD - Moner Bondor in 2012 which was produced by LASER VISION. The second album "Moner Ghor" was released in 2014 which was produced by CD CHOICE. He also worked in a few mixed albums. Tanvir Shaheen numerous music videos are available online in itunes, youtube, vimeo, twitter and in facebook. The song Shokhi received over 5 million viewers.
