NYC: MASON AT MAMA'S IN MARCH

Way back in 1982 DON'T TELL MAMA(343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) opened in the Manhattan Theater District on Restaurant Row. Two legendary cabaret stars opened the room - Karen Mason and the late Nancy LaMott. And now, 32 years later, Karon Mason returns for MARCH IS CABARET MONTH with her show MASON at MAMA'S in MARCH! Karen will perform every Sunday and Monday in March at 7:00 pm starting on Sunday & Monday, March 1st 7 2nd. Karen's new show features fresh arrangements of classics, new songs and music she and her longtime composer/ arranger Brian Lasser performed in the early days at Mama's. Musical Director is Christopher Denny and the show is directed by Barry Kleinbort. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: CELIA BERK RETURNS TO THE METROPOLITAN ROOM

Celia Berk returns to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Saturday, March 28th at 1:00 pm; and Sunday, March 29th at 9:30 pm. Her first solo New York engagement was warmly received and included sold out performances. Directed by Jeff Harnar, with Musical Direction by Alex Rybeck, the show features songs from her debut album - You Can't Rush Spring - and what Celia calls her "hidden gems: lesser-known songs from great songwriters." You Can't Rush Spring, was released on May 14, 2014 and is available on iTunes, CDBaby.com, Amazon, Spotify and Pandora. It is arranged and conducted by Alex Rybeck and co-produced by Tony Award-winning sound designer Scott Lehrer. There is a $22.50 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

SAN FRANCISCO: 10-YEAR JUBILEE CONCERT AT THE EMERALD TABLET

On Sunday, March 29th at 6:00 pm THE EMERALD TABLET (80 Fresno Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-500-2323) will present the 10-Year Jubilee Duo Concert celebrating ten years of music-making between vocalist Lua Hadar and pianist Jason A. Martineau. Vocalist Lua Hadar interprets an eclectic song list with swing, passion, humor and a soaring range. She has been molded by cultural exchange in places diverse as Bali, Russia, Switzerland, Japan, Thailand, France and Italy, where she performed and taught for five years. Lua has charmed audiences at such noted jazz clubs as Yoshi's Oakland and New York's Iridium to Bangkok's Thailand Cultural Center and the Swan Bar in Paris. Hadar's band Twist has been cultivating their cosmopolitan jazz sound since 2007, twisting the style of international standards and performing originals in 7 languages (and counting). Hadar's discography includes 'It's About Time', her first project with pianist/music director Jason Martineau, initiating their 10-year collaboration in 2005. Jason Martineau is an award-winning composer, pianist, arranger, music director, producer and instructor, active in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1995. With graduate degrees from both the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Manhattan School of Music, he has composed numerous works for orchestra, chamber ensembles, solo piano, and chorus, as well as a full-length musical, multiple film scores, and over 200 songs, both instrumental and vocal. A prolific recording artist in genres from jazz to world fusion to classical, he is also on the faculty of both the San Francisco Conservatory and The Academy of Art University teaching music notation, theory, film scoring, orchestration and counterpoint. In 2015 he celebrates ten years of artistic collaboration with vocalist Lua Hadar, with whom he arranged and recorded three CDs and a DVD, and toured New York, Los Angeles, and the Bangkok International Festival of Dance and Music. There is a $20 cover - tickets on sale now.
