MONTCLAIR, NJ: "TONY BENNETT & BILL EVANS - THE LEGENDARY RECORDINGS"

'Tony Bennett & Bill Evans - The Legendary Recordings" will be performed by The Joel Zelnik Trio and Grammy nominee vocalist Annette Sanders at TRUMPETS JAZZ CLUB & RESTAURANT (Six Depot Square, Montclair, NJ - 973-744-2600) on Friday, March 13th with sets at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. This timely program is based on the dialogues between Joel Zelnik and Bill Evans, a 7 time Grammy Award Winner and NJ resident, at the "Village Gate" in NYC, during the mid-1960's. Signature Evans works are performed and Joel plays pieces he enjoys that show the Evans influence. Highlighted is the collaboration of Bill Evans & Tony Bennett during 1975 and '77, which yielded some of the best recordings in the history of jazz. Few listeners realized that Tony Bennett was as much of a jazz singer as almost anybody; he had already made a handful of albums in a small jazz combo format, but these were far lesser known than his big chart hits. Then, in 1975, he made what would be his supreme statement in the jazz field, the first of two albums with the remarkable pianist Bill Evans. Joel had the great fortune of playing at the Top of the Gate in NYC during the mid 60's, on Monday nights. It was on these Mondays that he split sets with the Bill Evans Trio, and his greatness has stayed with Joel right up to the present. They reprise this remarkable collaboration of American Art Song at its finest, by recapturing the virility and expressiveness in these performances. It is a beautiful surprising repertoire - no Gershwin, no Ellington, no blues. They're mostly songs associated with great female singers: Mabel Mercer and Billie Holiday, as well as Bill Evans' own "Waltz For Debby" with Gene Lees' lyrics. Call for cover/minimum information.

PALM BEACH, FL: STEVE TYRELL AT THE ROYAL ROOM

Steve Tyrell will perform at THE ROYAL ROOM at THE COLONY HOTEL (155 Hammond Avenue, Palm Beach, FL - 561-659-8100) on Tuesday through Saturday, March 10th through 21st at 8:00 pm. Steve Tyrell is returning for his seventh engagement in the Royal Room, where he made his debut in January 2008. The Grammy Award-winning vocalist is truly a renaissance man. In his four and a half decades in the music business, he has achieved great success as an artist, producer, songwriter, music supervisor, and performer. With his breakthrough performances in Father of the Bride and Father of the Bride II, Tyrell reinvented and re-popularized classic pop standards for a modern-day audience. His hits "The Way You Look Tonight," "The Simple Life," "Crush On You" and "The Sunny Side of The Street," have launched thousands of weddings and millions of romances. He's held top positions at Standards, Swing, and Big Band outlets with a devoted following at key Adult Contemporary Radio. He has appeared with The Boston Pops, twice with The New York Pops, The Nashville Symphony, and The Houston Symphony on several occasions. At the request of the Sinatra family and Quincy Jones, Tyrell was the featured performer with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra at their season opening concert in which Frank Sinatra was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame. Also at the request of the Sinatra family, he reprised that performance this past May at Carnegie Hall. This is one of the rare times the family has reached into the vault of original Sinatra arrangements to share them with another artist. In 2005, after the passing of the legendary Bobby Short, Steve was asked by New York City's Cafe Carlyle to take over their revered Holiday Season of November and December, which Mr. Short had not missed in 36 years. Now Steve has become a fixture in New York and has played the Cafe Carlyle to record crowds for the last 6 years. As an artist, all 7 of his American Standards albums have achieved top 5 status on Billboard's Jazz charts, and his first album "A New Standard" was amongst the best selling jazz albums for over five years. For each guest there will be a $110 cover charge Tuesday through Thursday, and a $125 cover charge on Friday Saturday, plus a $20 minimum for food and beverage; $130 cover charge for premium seating on Tuesday through Thursday and $145 on Friday and Saturday.
