NEW HOPE, PA: KAREN MASON "LOVE SECRETS OF THE ANCIENT DIVAS"
Karen Mason's new show, "Love Secrets Of The Ancient Divas", will be performed at THE RRAZZ ROOM IN NEW HOPE(6426 Lower York Road, New Hope, PA - 888-596-1027) on Saturday, February 7th at 8:00 pm. The show takes a whimsically titled look at a very serious subject: the singers who have influenced her, including Judy Garland, Peggy Lee, Shirley Bassey, Barbra Streisand, and more. She will take on the songs that these divas made famous. Karen Mason has starred on Broadway, Off-Broadway, television, and recordings. Karen is a 10 time MAC Award winner and has won the MAC Award for Major Female Vocalist of the Year for six consecutive years. She has also won the 2006 Nightlife and 3 Bistro Awards. WASHINGTON, DC: ROY AYERS AT BLUES ALLEY
Constantly performing and recording since the 1960s, Roy Ayers is the most well known jazz vibraphonists. He will perform at BLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Thursday through Sunday, February 5th through 8th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Ayers has produced some of the most loved modern soul-jazz records of all time. Classics beyond genre such as, "Everybody Loves The Sunshine", most influential afro-jazz with musician Fela Kuti, "Africa - Centre Of The World", and the most seminal jazz-funk, such as "Running Away". Roy Ayers could very well be the best jazz/R&B artist you don't know. In his 40-plus years as a vibraphonist, he has produced a string of soul and funk classics, like "We Live In Brooklyn Baby" and "Everybody Loves the Sunshine," that has arguably made him the second-most sampled musician in hip-hop, after James Brown. WASHINGTON, DC: DWAYNE ADELL TRIO AT BOHEMIAN CAVERNS
Dwayne Adell, quite possibly the greatest pianist in the Washington, DC area, and his trio (Dwayne Adell - piano, Kris Funn - bass, Quincy Atkinson - drums) will perform at BOHEMIAN CAVERNS (2001 Eleventh Street N.W., Washington, DC - 202-299-0800) on Saturday, February 7th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. He is also arguably the greatest pianist on the East Coast. He is known as a savant, similar to Art Tatum • able to hear music and play it back on his instrument with stark accuracy, plus an improvised personal twist for good measure. He is well versed in all piano styles, from stride to bebop to classical. Adell has received accolades from icons such as Herbie Hancock. He is truly a one-of-a-kind musician. There is a $25 cover.
