BOSTON: MEHMET ALI SANLIKOL JAZZ ORCHESTRA CD RELEASE SHOW

The Mehmet Ali Sanlikol Jazz Orchestra will celebrate the release of it's latest CD on Thursday, April 3rd at 7:30 pm at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757). At this CD release concert Mehmet Ali Sanlikol will present his modern jazz compositions for big band as well as jazz combo compositions specifically influenced by Turkish music from his new album. Sanlikol came to United States in the year of 1993 when he won a scholarship to Berklee College of Music. in 1997, he founded the contemporary jazz ensemble AudioFact and toured Mexico, Argentina, the USA and Europe. The same year, he received Berklee College of Music's Clare Fischer Award and completed his degree in Jazz Composition and Film Scoring. Mehmet Sanlikol has composed for, performed and toured with international stars and ensembles such as Tiger Okoshi, Bob Brookmeyer, Esperanza Spalding, Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez, Okay Temiz, Erkan Oiur, Yansimalar, Omar Faruk Tekbilek and The Boston Camerata at numerous prestigious international Music Festivals and venues such as the Blue Note Jazz club in New York. There is a $20 cover.

BOSTON: STEVE KUHN TRIO WITH SPECIAL GUEST ERIC ALEXANDER 

The Steve Kuhn Trio with special guest Eric Alexander will perform atSCULLERS JAZZ CLUB (400 Soldiers Field Road, Allston, MA - 617-562-4111) on Thursday, April 3rd at 8:00 pm. Over a career of a half-century and counting, Steve Kuhn has earned renown as one of the most lyrical and affecting pianists in jazz, with an unfailingly beautiful touch and a sophisticated sense of swing. Dinner/Show: $70 Show only: $30.

TORONTO: YOUNG ARTIST SERIES: ANDREW SLADE

Pianist, arranger, and composer Andrew Slade will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO(251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Thursday & Friday, April 3rd & 4th at 6:00 pm as part of the club's Young Artist Series. Born and raised on Vancouver Island, BC, Slade is a new addition to Toronto's vibrant jazz scene. Making his way to the GTA by way of Montreal, Andrew is a part of the University of Toronto's newest crop of Master's students. He spent his formative years studying classical piano, eventually attaining a Bachelor's degree from the University of Victoria. After a period living in Mexico and studying jazz and composition, he fell in love with improvised music and found his passion. Andrew has studied with some of the top pianists in the field, including Hugh Fraser, Ross Taggart, Andre White, Jan Jarczyk, George Colligan, and many others. In demand as both a performer and clinician, Andrew has worked in a wide variety of situations, from orchestras, to big bands, to solo piano. He is currently involved in a number of projects with U of T and is very excited to be a part of the music in Toronto. There is no cover.

TORONTO: KIRK MACDONALD QUARTET - "SYMMETRY" CD RELEASE

One of this country's leading jazz musicians, award-winning saxophonist/composer Kirk MacDonald celebrates a new release at THE JAZZ BISTRO(251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Thursday through Saturday, April 3rd through 5th at 9:00 pm. On the CD "Symmetry", on Addo Records, his group explores the concepts of 'symmetry' as related to musical form, structure, harmony, melody, and rhythm. The quartet features Kirk MacDonald - tenor saxophone, Brian Dickinson - piano, Neil Swainson - bass and Dennis Mackrel - drums. There is a $15-$20 cover.

WASHINGTON, DC: CHEIKH NDOYE & FRIENDS AT BLUES ALLEY

Cheikh NDoye & Friends, featurin: Karen Briggs (Violin), Kazumi Watanabe (Guitar), Raul Pineda (Drums), Dan Leonard (Guitar), Arshak Sirunyan (Piano) & Bob Francesschini (Sax) will perform atBLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Thursday through Sunday, April 3rd through 6th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Cheikh NDoye is a bassist, composer, arranger and accomplished musical artist whose music is a rich fusion of jazz and world music influences stemming from his West African heritage combined with his love for classic and contemporary American jazz. Originally from Senegal, Cheikh's fascination with the diverse, rich sounds and rhythms of the local music scene started in his prime age. Early in his life Cheikh played the piano, and was attracted to many jazz greats. After listening to Weather Report's 8:30 album, he was so captivated by Jaco Pastorius melodic and harmonic developments that he immediately fell in love with the bass guitar. WASHINGTON D.C.: JESSE FISCHER AT BOHEMIAN CAVERNS

Brooklyn-based pianist/composer Jesse Fischer will perform atBOHEMIAN CAVERNS (2001 Eleventh Street N.W., Washington, DC - 202-299-0800) on Thursday, April 3rd at 8:00 pm. Fischer is crafting a fresh new hybrid sound, with eclectic influences ranging from jazz fusion, psychedelic soul, indie, folk and world music. With a strong emphasis on catchy, infectious grooves and memorable melodies, Fischer's music easily crosses boundaries between jazz, soul, and pop. A triple threat as musician, engineer, and producer, Fischer has recorded six albums as a leader with his working unit Soul Cycle, most recently the ObliqSound release Retro Future. Fischer's warm, soulful touch, and bold, spacious compositions have earned him three SoulTracks Award nominations and most recently an Independent Music Award nod. In addition to leading his own band, Fischer tours internationally with Prince protege Andy Allo, Atlantic recording artist Laura Izibor, and Grammy-nominated soul singer Ryan Shaw, and his playing is featured on Anthony Hamilton's Grammy-nominated album Back To Love. FLORIDA: MARILYN McCOO & BILLY DAVIS, JR. AT THE ROYAL ROOM

Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis, Jr. will appear at THE ROYAL ROOM at THE COLONY HOTEL (155 Hammond Avenue, Palm Beach, FL - 561-659-8100) on Tuesdays through Saturdays, April 1st through 12th at 8:30 pm. Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis, Jr. have enjoyed tremendous success over the last four decades as recording artists, performers and authors. They have received seven Grammy Awards and earned 15 gold and three platinum records, and enjoyed starring roles on television and stage. Both as a duo and as lead vocalists of The 5th Dimension, one of the most popular singing groups in the late 60s and early 70s, they have performed to sold-out concerts around the world. Among their top hits are Up, Up & Away, Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In, Wedding Bell Blues, One Less Bell to Answer, Stones Soul Picnic and You Don't Have to Be a Star (To Be in My Show).
