SAN DIEGO, CA: WALTERS DOES EDNA AT MARTINI'S ABOVE FOURTH
Award-winning celebrity impersonator Michael L. Walters comes to MARTINI'S ABOVE FOURTH (3940 4th Avenue, San Diego, CA - 619-400-4500) on Wednesday, September 10th & 11th at 8:00 pm with his hilarious portrayal of comedy icon Dame Edna Everage. Dame Edna is probably the most gifted and talented woman in the world today: housewife, investigative journalist, social anthropologist, talk show host, swami, childrens' book illustrator, spin doctor, Megastar, and Icon. Michael has the distinction and honor of having the blessing and approval of Dame Edna's manager/creator Barry Humphries due to his spot-on impersonation which has taken him all over the US and Canada. There is a $20-$25 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.
SAN FRANCISCO: MAYA BEISER AT YOSHI'S
Brilliant cellist Maya Beiser is touring her new album "Uncovered" and will appear at YOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Wednesday, September 10th at 8:00 pm. Maya Beiser: Uncovered is a collection of startling classic rock tunes, re-imagined and re-contextualized, in stunning performances by Maya Beiser. Her concert at Yoshi's, with bassist Gyan Riley and drummer Matt Kilmer, follows shortly after the August 26, 2014 release of Uncovered, the album. A "cover tune" can be an homage to the original, but these "uncovers," in new arrangements by Evan Ziporyn, attempt to do more - to evoke the unprecedented power of the music of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Janis Joplin, Howlin' Wolf, and AC/DC. Maya juxtaposes these handpicked rock classics with composer and Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche's Three Parts Wisdom and David T. Little's Hellhound, both written for Maya, and David Lang's take on Lou Reed's Heroin. Maya's performance explores the juncture where the spiritual, traditional, contemporary, urban, and popular culture meet. There is a $35 cover.
