NYC: STEPHEN WALLEM IN "A BURLY NIGHT MUSIC" AT BIRDLAND

Stephen Wallem presents "A Burly Night Music" at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Monday, August 25th at 7:00 pm. The concert, with direction by Tony-nominee John Tartaglia and musical direction by Beckie Menzie, is a musical and anecdotal retrospective of a very high voice trapped in a very large body. Featuring songs from Wallem's big and/or "simple" guy roles including Shrek in Shrek the Musical, Hazel in Pipe Dreams, and Horton the Elephant in Seussical, as well as songs from Hairspray, Elf, Anna Nicole the Opera, The Land Before Time and The Addams Family, all celebrating the big-boned beauty of Broadway and Hollywood. With original songs, a three-piece band and surprise celebrity guest appearances. Stephen Wallem is a SAG Award-nominated actor best known as Thor Lundgren on the Emmy-winning Showtime series "Nurse Jackie", now airing its sixth season. Born and raised in Rockford, Illinois, he worked as a stage actor and After Dark Award-winning cabaret singer in Chicago before moving to New York to make his television debut on "Nurse Jackie." He was recently seen as Horton the Elephant in Seussical at The Muny in St.Louis, and last summer made his professional opera debut in New York City Opera's Anna Nicole following his appearance as Shrek in Shrek the Musical at The Muny. This October he will be named Chicago Cabaret Professionals 2014 National Honoree for Excellence in Cabaret. There is a $25 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: JIM CARUSO'S "CAST PARTY" MONDAYS AT BIRDLANDFEATURED OPEN MIC EVENT

Every Monday night at 9:30 pm, Broadway impresario Jim Caruso hosts "Cast Party", a combination open-mic, networking event and party atBIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) during which the biggest stars on Broadway relax on their night off by performing their favorite songs in an informal setting. Cast Party is a mix of music, impromptu performance and cocktail party revelry, where showbiz superstars, stunning jazz talents and cabaret glitterati hit the stage alongside up-and-comers to serve up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle. It's the ultimate spot to mix and mingle with talented show folk and their fans. There is a $20 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: JEREMY PELT AT THE BLUE NOTE

Trumpeter Jeremy Pelt will perform at THE BLUE NOTE(131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Monday, August 25th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. He will be joined by Simona Premazzi - Piano, Vicente Archer - Bass and Jonathan Barber - Drums. Pelt has become one of the preeminent young trumpeters within the world of jazz. Forging a bond with the Mingus Big Band very early on, as his career progressed, Pelt built upon these relationships and many others which eventually lead to collaborations with some of the genre's greatest masters. These projects include performances and recordings with Cliff Barbaro, Keter Betts, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Ravi Coltrane, Frank Foster, Winard Harper, Jimmy Heath, Vincent Herring, John Hicks, Charli Persip, Ralph Peterson, Lonnie Plaxico, Bobby Short, Cedar Walton, Frank Wess, Nancy Wilson and The Skatalites, to name a few. Pelt is currently touring throughout the United States and Europe in support of his latest release, "Water And Earth" (High Note Records, January 2013). There is a $10-$15 cover.

NYC: MONDAY NIGHTS WITH WBGO: MICHAEL CARVIN

Michael Carvin returns toDIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Monday, August 25th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm to celebrate the release of Flash Forward, his latest CD in a career spanning over 250 recordings. The show features Michael Carvin, drums; Yayoi Ikawa, piano; Keith Loftis, tenor saxophone; and Jansen Cinco, bass. He has played with leading voices throughout the history of jazz and Motown, including artists like Freddie Hubbard, Dizzy Gillespie, and B.B. King. His great influence as a teacher has shaped the sound of today's top drummers, with a few of his 300+ students including Kimberly Thompson, Allison Miller, E.J. Strickland, and Eric McPherson. A tireless mentor, Carvin is known for featuring bands with up-and-coming and culturally diverse musicians, and we can't wait to hear this next piece of his illustrious career.
