NEW HOPE, PA: REX SMITH: CONFESSIONS OF A TEEN IDOL
Rex Smith brings his show Confessions of A Teen Idol - A Musical Autobiography to THE RRAZZ ROOM IN NEW HOPE(6426 Lower York Road, New Hope, PA - 888-596-1027) on Saturday, August 30th at 8:00 pm. Every song has a story. Like a rock and roll Mark Twain, Rex Smith takes you on a wild and fascinating, sometimes dramatic, yet very hilarious, musical story-telling journey. From the crazy antics of rock and roll, his excitement and pressures behind a six-album deal as a number one platinum recording artist with Columbia Records, his two years opening for Ted Nugent, his last concert with Lynard Skynard before their plane crash (and what really happened), what lead Rex to become an overnight sensation as Teen Idol that took him around the world, and the despair that came with the title; his television roles on Sooner Or Later, Street Hawk, Solid Gold, As The World Turns, and The Daredevil; and most notable, his sudden rise to Broadway, including antics with Kevin Kline and Linda Ronstadt during The Pirates of Penzance and receiving the coveted Theatre World Award, leading to Broadway shows with Grease, Grand Hotel, Annie Get Your Gun, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Kiss Me Kate, and Sunset Boulevard ... to where he met his 16 year old son, Brandon, for the first time ... a son he never knew he had. There is a $30 - $35 - $40 - $60 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
WASHINGTON, DC: CHRIS THOMAS KING AT BLUES ALLEY
Chris Thomas King, a New Orleans Grammy Award-winning musician and actor, will perform at BLUES ALLEY(1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Thursday through Sunday, August 28th through 31st with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. King is initially known for his audacious fusion of blues and hip-hop. King reached a whole new audience with his film debut in the Coen Brothers film, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, not only appearing on the award-winning soundtrack, but establishing himself as a serious dramatic actor as well. Chris Thomas King has been a determined progressive, hoping to reinvigorate the blues as a living African American art with a more contemporary approach and adamantly refusing to treat it as a museum piece whose "authentic" forms needed careful preservation. King eventually modified that approach to a certain degree, attempting to create a more explicit link between blues tradition and the general musical present. Call for cover/minimum information.
