LOS ANGELES: JUVON MALONE RETURNS TO THE GARDENIA
Angeleno Juvon returns to THE GARDENIA (7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444) on Thursday, August 28th at 9:00 pm. As the son of a "hard-working thespian," L.A. native Angeleno Juvon Malone grew up in the theater and began entertaining professionally himself when at the age of 17 he signed an independent record deal with Cameron Records. Away from the business for about 10 years, save for hosting a few local events and shows, he has returned to the spotlight with "Juvon & Wyld Bunch of Friends," serving up an "entertaining gumbo of fun," with R & B, soul, comedy, a live band, poetry, and hip hop, delivering his promise of "a good time out on a weekday."
SAN FRANCISCO: ROY HARGROVE QUINTET AT YOSHI'S
GRAMMY winning trumpeter Roy Hargrove will perform atYOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Wednesday through Saturday, August 27th through 30th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. He is joined on stage by Justin Robinson - Alto Sax & flute, Sullivan Fortner - Piano, Ameen Saleem - Bass and Quincy Phillips - Drums. Hargrove has firmly established himself among the premier players in Jazz & Beyond. With nearly 20 recordings as a leader, and many more as an indispensible sideman, Roy, (an early devotee of legendary David "Fathead" Newman), has played and recorded with luminaries such as Sonny Rollins, Herbie Hancock, Roy Haynes, Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Peterson, and introduced his Groundbreaking Hip Hop / Jazz group, RH FACTOR to the world, while leaving indelible imprints on a vast array of projects, as he continually flexes his musical chops to thrilled audiences the world over. There is a $14-$32 cover.
