WASHINGTON, DC: RAMSEY LEWIS & HIS ELECTRIC BAND AT BLUES ALLEY

Ramsey Lewis & His Electric Band take the stage at
BLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141
) on Thursday through Sunday, August 21st through 24th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Ramsey recently released his 80th collection of songs entitled "Ramsey, Taking Another Look". Ramsey has been an iconic leader in the contemporary jazz movement for over 50 years, with an unforgettable sound and outgoing personality that has allowed him to cross over to the pop and R&B charts. The Ramsey Lewis Trio, with bassist Eldee Young and percussionist Redd Holt, became a fixture on the Chicago jazz scene, releasing their debut album, Ramsey Lewis & His Gentlemen of Jazz, back in 1956. Lewis earned his first gold record, as well as a Grammy award for Best Jazz Performance, for their swinging version of Dobie Gray's hit "The In Crowd." Throughout the years, Lewis' trio has undergone membership changes, all the while staying true to Lewis' high musical standards. Call for cover/minimum information.

"2011 Jazz Group of the Year nominee" TIZER, featuring Karen Briggs, will appear at BETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500 ) on Sunday, September 24th at 7:30 pm. Driven by an explosive mix of jazz, rock, classical , jam band influences and Afro Cuban and world rhythms, the the first studio album by TIZER, a multi-cultural band led by Boulder, CO native, keyboardist/composer Lao Tizer, throws down a high powered collection of 12 brand-new originals on this scintillating release of fresh instrumental music from one of today's rising stars of the world-fusion genre. Establishing themselves in the contemporary jazz world over the past few years, TIZER has spurred comparisons of a modern twist to the 70s and early 80s heyday of jazz fusion, when trailblazing ensembles like Return To Forever, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Weather Report set the aesthetic standard. There is a $20 cover.
