PALM SPRINGS: SHELLEY FISHER COMES TO PALM DESERT

Singer-songwriter Shelley Fisher performs "The Down Home Diva", a one-woman cabaret style concert at a 2:00 pm matinee on Sunday, May 20th atTHE ARTHUR NEWMAN THEATRE at the JOSLYN CENTER (73-750 Catalina Way, Palm Desert, CA - TKTS: 760-325-2731). The show chronicles Ms. Fisher's Hollywood odyssey that begins in her hometown of Memphis in the heart of Mississippi Delta with a flamboyant but very Jewish mother. The hilarious musical rollercoaster ride, features original songs by Shelley Fisher, Harold Payne, and award-winning Ken Hirsch, and range from dating rednecks boys to dreams of being a Hollywood star - with some rock and roll, blues, and good BBQ along the way. The show is presented by Les Michaels as pari of the Sundays In Summer Series. Tickers are $11 cash available at the door.

SAN FRANCISCO: KAREN MASON AT THE VENETIAN ROOM

10-time MAC Award winner, Star of Broadway's Mamma Mia!, Sunset Boulevard, Hairspray and more, Broadway/ cabaret star Karen Mason will perform at THE FAIRMONT VENETIAN ROOM (950 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - TKTS: 415-392-4400 & www.bayareacabaret.org/ ) on Sunday, May 18th at 5:00 pm as part of the 10th ANNIVERSARY SEASON FINALE! of 'Bay Area Cabaret'. Karen has played Norma Desmond, she's been Velma Von Tussle in Hairspray, she's originated the Queen of Hearts for Frank Wildhorn and originated Tanya in Mamma Mia all on Broadway and in Los Angeles. Her cabaret show, "Secrets of the Ancient Divas", pays homage to some of Karen's personal idols, performing the songs of such iconic singers as Judy Garland, Peggy Lee, Barbra Streisand, and more. Bay Area Cabaret (BAC) is a not-for profit organization founded by Marilyn Levinson, a fifth generation San Francisco native. Through its concert series and wide-ranging outreach activities, BAC aims to expand the definition of cabaret and broaden the audience for intimate entertainment, featuring Great American Songbook offerings from George and Ira Gershwin and Stephen Sondheim to Antonio Carlos Jobim and Joni Mitchell. Tickets are $48, with no food or drink minimum required.

SAN FRANCISCO: GEORGE LACSON PROJECT AT YOSHI'S

The George Lacson Project presented in association with the San Francisco Filipino American Jazz Festival will perform at YOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Sunday, May 18th ay 7:00 pm. The George Lacson Project is a collective of talented artists and musicians based in the San Francisco Bay Area, organized and led by bass player George Lacson. Their sound melds traditional Jazz, Funk, R&B with the innovative and modern influences of today's contemporary music. Throughout Lacson's career, he has performed with world- renowned artists such as John Lee Hooker Jr. and shared the stage with householdnames like Lenny Kravitz and Z.Z. Top. He has also achieved recording credits on a Grammy nominated album. The George Lacson Project entices listeners' ears with owerful, inspired music that's built around a backbone of strong musicianship. Originally from St. Louis, the talented bassist Lacson is a recognized master of his craft. The George Lacson Project's music has been described as "funky", with ever-changing innovative rhythms, well constructed songwriting/ arrangements and world-class musicianship. Other members of the collective include Alcian Lindo whose sweet and sensitive vocals round out the band's powerful instrumentals. The group has gained a significant following in the San Francisco Bay Area, largely based on their captivating live performances. George Lacson is officially releasing his latest EP on May 18th: 'Monsters'. The title signifies all the talent that has joined George on his latest creation including members from Graham Central Station,The John Lee Hooker Jr. Band, organist Wil Blades, and other monsters from the San Francisco Bay Area. One notable track sets a darker, yet powerful tone, to the hit song "Get Lucky" from Daft Punk. Listen to George as he tells his story through the sounds of "Monsters". SAN FRANCISCO: JAZZ AND CABARET VOCALIST VERONICA KLAUS

San Francisco-based jazz and cabaret vocalist Veronica Klaus will bring her new show, Lee a la V - A Peggy Lee Songbook, to FEINSTEIN'S AT THE NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 866-663-1063) for one performance only on Sunday, May 18th at 7:00 pm. Featuring a collection of personal favorites written, co-written or recorded by the one-and-only Peggy Lee, Veronica will be joined by her pianist and musical director Tammy L. Hall along with her quartet. This performance serves as the official CD release for her new album of the same name. There is a $30-$45 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.
