Juvon Malone brings his show "Juvon & Wyld Bunch of Friends" to THE GARDENIA (7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444) on Wednesday, June 21st at 9:00 pm. As the son of a "hard-working thespian," native Angeleno Juvon Malone grew up in the theater and began entertaining professionally himself when at the age of 17 he signed an independent record deal with Cameron Records. Away from the business for about 10 years now, save for hosting a few local events and shows, he returns to the spotlight with "Juvon & Wyld Bunch of Friends serving up R & B, soul, comedy, a live band, poetry, and hip hop and promising a good time. Lauren White will perform atCATALINA JAZZ CLUB(6725 West Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, CA - 323-466-2210) on Wednesday, May 21st at 8:00 pm. She will be backed by the Quinn Johnson Trio , and joined by special guests Dolores Scozzesi and the vocal trio Chambers, Herbert & Ellis. Call for cover/minimum information.
SAN FRANCISCO: JANE MONHEIT SINGS JUDY GARLAND
Supremely gifted jazz and cabaret vocalist Jane Monheit brings her show "Hello Bluebird: Celebrating the Jazz of Judy Garland" to YOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Wednesday & Thursday, May 21st & 22nd with shows at 8:00 on Wednesday and 8:00 & 10:00 pm on Thursday. Monheit has been a leading light in both the jazz and cabaret worlds since emerging as a finalist in the Thelonious Monk Institute's 1998 vocal competition. In addition to her own recordings, she has worked alongside the likes of Terence Blanchard, Tom Harrell, and Ivan Lins. Dinner/Show: $59-$65, Show only: $21-$27.
