NYC: PAST IS PRESENT: THE LYRICS OF SARAH REBELL
Everything old is new again (and vice versa) at up-and-coming lyricist Sarah Rebell's Past Is Present debut show "Past Is Present" at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 - ) on Monday, March 24th at 9:30 pm. By turns hilarious and touching, sexy and historical, this concert features Rebell's lyrics paired with the music of promising young composers. The show transcends era to deliver contemporary tunes with a classic flair ... and classic-sounding songs with the spunk of today. Featuring unexpected characters like a lusty Mona Lisa, a neurotic skier, and the morbid and romantic son of an opera singer, Rebell's lyrics create worlds heartfelt and silly; places moving and irreverent. Fresh from NYU's prestigious graduate musical theatre writing program, Rebell is a new talent poised to take New York by a special, surprising kind of storm. NYC: RACHEL YORK DEBUTS "UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL"
Drama Desk Award-winning actress and singer Rachel York (Little Me, Victor/Victoria, Anything Goes) brings her new one-woman show Up Close and Personal to STAGE 72 (158 West 72nd Street, NYC - 212-362-2590 - ) for one performance only on Monday, March 24th at 9:30 pm. In Up Close and Personal, Ms. York celebrates her love of singing and performing in a delightful evening of stories and song. She includes numbers made famous by early inspirations, favorite show tunes from her Broadway career, jazz standards from her solo album•Let's Fall in Love,•and a few surprises that touch her heart in a special way. Ms. York is best known for her critically acclaimed Broadway performances in City of Angels, Les Miserables, Victor/Victoria (Drama Desk Award), The Scarlet Pimpernel, Sly Fox, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. She also turned heads on television with her courageous portrayal of Lucille Ball in the CBS movie, Lucy. Most recently she starred as Young Belle in Little Me at New York City Center Encores! and as Reno Sweeney in the first national tour of the 2011 Tony Award-winning Broadway musical revival Anything Goes (Helen Hayes nomination). NYC: JARROD SPECTOR RETURNS TO 54 BELOW
Jarrod Spector, who is starring in the new Broadway hit Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, returns to 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) to celebrate his brand new album "A Little Help From My Friends: Live at 54 BELOW" on Monday, March 10th at 7:00 pm. Additional performances are scheduled for Sunday, March 23rd; Monday, March 24th; and Monday, March 31st at 9:30 pm. This acclaimed musical outing traces the legacy of the great male singers whose vocal prowess made them the rock stars of their generations, even before rock was born. After starring as Frankie Valli for six years in Broadway's smash hit musical Jersey Boys, Jarrod wraps his critically-praised voice around the songs that have made superstars out of more than a century of tenor legends from Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson to the great Enrico Caruso himself. Known to New York audiences for playing Rose and Birdlace in Dogfight, and fresh off a run as Elphaba and Fiyero in Wicked, Lindsay Mendez and Derek Klena join forces once again, this time on the stage of 54 Below. The two will perform a rousing, eclectic evening celebrating the music they love and their genuine friendship. Directed by Dogfight bookwriter Peter Duchan. PANIC!, a rough-edged concert featuring songs by the American rock band Panic! at the Disco will be presented at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551 - ) on Monday, March 24th at 11:30 pm as part of the club's Late Night Series. Schmalenberger present: TRANS Formative - Songs That Propel Us: A Benefit for New York Voices, Joe's Pub's artist commissioning program, and the Ali Forney Center. Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks are back - and now will play every Monday & Tuesday night from 8:00 to 11:00 pm at at IGUANA'S VIP LOUNGE (240 West 54th Street, NYC - 212-765-5454). Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks is an eleven-piece band playing music of the 1920s & 30s for your dining and dancing pleasure. In 1976 Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks (originally known as the New Orleans Nighthawks) was formed. A big-band historian and collector, Giordano has more than 60,000 scores in his collection. There is a $15 cover (at the door) plus a $15 food drink minimum.
NYC: DONNA MCKECHNIE "IN GOOD COMPANY" AT BIRDLAND
Donna McKechnie performs in "In Good Company" at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080 - ) on Monday, March 24th at 7:00 pm, with Special Guest Andrea McArdle. The "In Good Company" series will bring the Tony winner's conversational skills to the forefront, and provide a stage for unique, one-time-only musical moments with Broadway's most celebrated and iconic artists along with a surprise musical guest. These events will be produced for Birdland by Wayne Gmitter. Donna McKechnie, the Tony Award winning star of A Chorus Line, is regarded internationally as one of Broadway's foremost dancing and singing leading ladies. She has just completed filming a feature role in 36SAINTS, which will be released next year, and recently appeared in John Doyle's Ten Cents A Dance at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, New Jersey and the Williamstown Theatre Festival. Some of Ms. McKechnie's Broadway credits include: How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, (National Tour), The Educationof H*Y*M*A*N- K*A*P*L*A*N, Sondheim - A Musical Tribute (which she also choreographed), On The Town, Promises, Promises, Company and State Fair, for which she received the Fred Astaire Award for Best Female Dancer for the1996 Season. Donna's new cabaret show Same Place, Another Time was released on CD on January 01, 2014 by Jay Records. Andrea McArdle rocketed to stardom as Broadway's original Annie, and was the youngest performer ever nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, winning both the Theatre World and Outer Critics' Circle Awards for her performance. On Broadway she originated the roles of Ashley in Starlight Express and Margy in State Fair and was seen as Belle in Beauty and the Beast and as Fantine in Les Miserables. On tour she starred in Jerry's Girls, Les Miserables as Eponine, The Wizard of Oz, Cabaret and Peter Pan. Andrea has performed in concert halls from Carnegie Hall, the best showrooms in Las Vegas, the MET Opera House as well as The White House. There is a $30 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: ANNA SAEKI AT THE BLUE NOTE
Vocalist Anna Saeki will perform at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592 - ) on Monday, March 24th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. She is joined on stage by Maurizio Najt, Piano; Pedro Giraudo, Bass; Mikhai Kuchuk, Violin; and Ariel Iud, Bandoneon. Saeki, born in Hokkaido, Japan, made her debut in 1987 as a tango singer after being crowned Miss Sapporo. Soon after her talent as a singer was acknowledged, she went to Argentina to record her first album. She received critical acclaim in TV, radio and magazine. She was responsible for the Latin Boom in Japan. She was also the vocalist for the band "Orquesta del Sol", and in addition, she became involved in acting and hosted various talent shows. She is now actively doing concerts in Japan, the U.S. & Europe and other major venues around the world. She is now recognized as a top artist in the Tango world. She released the album of folklore and folklore of Argentina in 2009 after meeting Mercedes Sosa. She was invited to the event of the 200th anniversary of founding of Argentina in 2010, and had a concert as the first Japanese artist at Salon Dorado in Casa De La Culutra sponsored by the City of Buenos Aires.
