D.C.: KAORI KOBAYASHI AT BLUES ALLEY

Kaori Kobayashi will perform on Monday, March 24th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm as part of the "Japanese Spotlight Series, Co-Presented by the Embassy of Japan and BLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141 - ). Kaori Kobayashi is well known and popular in Japan for her jazz, fusion, pop and rock performance. Due to her diverse performance genre, she has been receiving much attention from foreign festivals. Ever since she was born, music has always been a part of her life. Her mother was a piano instructor and as a baby, she was always playing around the piano. During her first year of Junior High School, she joined the brass band to play the flute. It was during her junior year in high school that she was touched by the tone and performance of the saxophone and she began to play. For a year, she studied classical sax under the instruction of Hitomi Hara. It was in her senior year of high school when she began playing jazz. Graduated from Senzoku Gakuen Music College, Jazz Course in 2004. While attending college, she studied under Bob Zunk. Call for cover/minimum information.

D.C.: THE BOHEMIAN CAVERNS JAZZ ORCHESTRA MONDAYS

The Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra performs every Monday night at BOHEMIAN CAVERNS (2001 Eleventh Street N.W., Washington, DC - 202-299-0800) with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Still the Hottest Big Band in the City, The Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra is a 17 piece powerhouse force cofounded by baritone saxophonist Brad Linde, trumpeter Joe Herrera and club owner Omrao Brown. The BCJO presents a variety of music from big band literature and features some of the District's best musicians. Music from Ellington, Basie, Strayhorn, Thad Jones, Oliver Nelson, Maria Schneider and originals by band members will embrace and challenge the tradition of big band repertoire.
