NYC: SUNDAY OPEN MIC AT THE MET

Sunday Open Mic comes to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on the 2nd & 4th Sundays each month from 12:00 noon to 2:30 pm (signup ay 11:30 am). Presented and hosted by Susan Winter and Deb Berman, the "OPEN MIC AT THE MET" is not your average Open Mic since it will be presented on the iconic stage, with amazing acoustics, high-end equipment, and experienced sound engineer to help create a concert-like experience in Metropolitan Room's friendly, warm environment. Each Open Mic offers different pianists to accompany your performance. There is a $15 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum. 



NYC: SUNDAY JAZZ BRUNCH WITH GABRIELLE STRAVELLI

Bistro Award winning vocalist, Gabrielle Stravelli, returns with her Sunday Jazz Brunch on August 11th at LE PESCADEUX (90 Thompson Street, NYC - 212-966-0021), a French restaurant in the heart of Soho. They will play three sets from 12:30 to 4:00 pm. She will be joined by Saul Rubin on guitar and Pat O'Leary on bass in this charming boite that offers a great, well-priced menu and cozy atmosphere. Award-winning vocalist Gabrielle Stravelli has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal following through her unique take on material from the new American songbook as well as classic standards by artists as varied as Pink Floyd and Duke Ellington, Dolly Parton and Johnny Mercer. A trained actor, Gabrielle has a soulful sensitivity for the story in the lyric. Gabrielle has performed on stages from Amsterdam to New York including Carnegie Hall, Iridium Jazz Club, Birdland, and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Reservations are strongly suggested. No cover, no minimum.

NYC: EAST MEETS WEST BRUNCH SERIES: YOKO MIWA TRIO

Renowned pianist and JVC Victor Entertainment Recording Artist, Yoko Miwa will perform at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Sunday, March 23rd at 11:30 am & 1:30 pm as part of their East Meets West Brunch Series. Last June, the Yoko Miwa Trio was voted Best Jazz Act by the Boston Phoenix in the 2012 Best Music Poll. In July, her trio released their major label debut CD in Japan titled Act Naturally on the JVC Victor Entertainment label. In 2011, she was appointed Assistant Professor at Berklee College of Music, she played sold-out shows in Boston and NYC, and she was chosen to play a special concert, Marian McPartland & Friends at Dizzy's at Lincoln Center, as part of The Coca-Cola Generations in Jazz Festival. Miwa, a native of Kobe, Japan, was classically trained and didn't pursue an interest in jazz until she met and studied with Minoru Ozone, a popular television organist and nightclub owner who is the father of pianist Makoto Ozone. Miwa worked at Ozone's club and as an accompanist and piano instructor at his music school until the great Kobe earthquake of 1995 destroyed both facilities. Then, while continuing to take private lessons from Minoru Ozone, she also pursued musical studies at the Koyo Conservatory in Kobe. From there she won first prize in a scholarship competition to attend Berklee. Miwa quickly began playing with a host of talented students and teachers, and she formed a strong bond with vocal great Kevin Mahogany, who chose the pianist to serve as accompanist in his classes and on his gigs. There is a $29.50 cover. Price includes brunch, music and a drink.

NYC: DESMOND'S "JAZZ BRUNCH" WITH JERRY COSTANZO & HIS TRIO

DESMOND'S STEAKHOUSE (513 Seventh Avenue, NYC - 212-391-6900) presents 'Jazz Brunch' every Sunday from noon to 4:00 pm with Jerry Costanzo & His Trio, with special guests weekly. Dine on their very special and affordable brunch menu while enjoying the best of jazz, swing and "The Great American Song Book". Combining the liveliness of Time Square with a resplendent dining experience, Desmond's Steakhouse has proudly become New York City's premiere steakhouse with a contemporary twist. BOSTON: JUMP UP TO SPRING WITH LOUISE VAN AARSEN

Louise Van Aarsen returns to entertain at the delightful Jazz Brunch atTHELONIOUS MONKFISH (524 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA - 617-441-2116) on Sunday, March 23rd from 12:00 noon to 3:30 pm. She will serve selections from my own and the American songbook. She is joined by Paul McWilliams (keyboard) and Mike Turk (harmonica). Louise Van Aarsen-Koopman, a Dutch native, has had a passion for music, vocal jazz in particular, since her teenage years. She moved to Boston with a Ph.D. in cancer biology to further novel cancer therapies. In parallel, she has never ceased to develop her talent as a singer through intensive vocal training and performances. Over the past few years, she has been writing her own melodies and lyrics; poignant stories and catchy compositions with a unique 'jazz standard-esque' flavor. In a wonderful collaboration with Ton Scheer, Doug Hammer and Rebecca Parris, this work has culminated in an impressive debut CD recorded with some of Boston's finest jazz musicians at Peter Kontrimas' PBS Studios. TORONTO: SUNDAY BRUNCH WITH COUNTERMEASURE AT THE JAZZ BISTRO

Countermeasure will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Sunday, March 23rd at 12:30 pm as part of their Sunday Brunch series. Countermeasure is the fresh face of a cappella, known for their upbeat sound, sophisticated harmonies, and infectious energy. Featuring 14 of Canada's top young vocal talents, Toronto-based Countermeasure's genre-defying, contemporary sound has earned the group critical and public acclaim. The group's new CD "14 Characters", offers a range of lively pop, jazz, contemporary, and original songs. LOS ANGELES: BROADWAY BRUNCH AT DON'T TELL MAMA

James Lent & James Mooney present The Broadway Brunch at DONT TELL MAMA LA (8279 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-380-7209 ) on Sundays December 8th, 15th, 22nd & 29th with seatings at 11:30 am & 1:00 pm. The brunch features LA's Brightest singing Broadway's Best. There is no cover - 2 drink minimum or brunch.
