CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: MONDAY NIGHTS WITH WBGO: MICHELE ROSEWOMAN'S NEW YOR-UBA
Michele Rosewoman's New Yor-Uba, 30 Years: A Musical Celebration of Cuba in America - CD Release event will be held at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Monday, September 30th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. The evening will begin with a live webcast and artist interview with WBGO host Rhonda Hamilton will begin at 7:15 pm on http://www.jalc.org/live . In 1983, Rosewoman received a National Endowment for the Arts grant to form the pioneering 14-piece ensemble New Yor-Uba: A Musical Celebration of Cuba in America. Time and time again, this original group has been praised as a rare, seamless combination of jazz, Cuban folk music, and centuries-old African musical traditions. The ensemble features masters from multiple musical worlds, particularly jazz and Latin music, and the unique qualities of Rosewoman's vision are immediately apparent on first listen. Michelle on piano/vocals will be joined by Freddie Hendrix, trumpet; Antonio Hart, alto/soprano saxophone; Billy Harper, tenor saxophone; Stafford Hunter, trombone; Howard Johnson, baritone saxophone/tuba; Gregg August, bass; Adam Cruz, drums; Nicky Laboy, Roman Diaz, and Abraham Rodriguez, bata/congas/vocals; Nina Rodriguez, vocals. WBGO is proud to partner once again with Dizzy's Club on Monday Nights with WBGO. The series features talented new artists as well as groups from some of the area's great college jazz programs. Each performance is hosted by WBGO announcer Rhonda Hamilton. There is a $35 cover.
