SF: RUSSIAN FOLK TRIO VORONEZH AT YOSHI'S - TONIGHT ONLY
The Russian folk trio Voronezh will perform atYOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Sunday, July 7th at 7:00 pm. Trio Voronezh's astonishing virtuosity and delightful artistic innovation gives audiences new ways to experience classical, folk and contemporary music. The Trio's diverse repertoire includes works by Vivaldi, Bach, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, and Rachmaninov, as well as Russian folk songs, Argentine tangos, gypsy dance tunes, bluegrass and Gershwin standards. Trio Voroenzh performs on three Russian folk instruments: Valerie Petrukhin on double-bass balalaika (the triangular three-stringed Russian national instrument), Vladimir Volokhin on domra (the three-stringed short-necked ancestor of the mandolin), and Sergei Teleshev on bajan (a chromatic-button accordion). All distinguished experts in their instruments, Vladimir Volokhin won the title of National Champion in the All-Russia Domra Competition in 1988, Sergei Teleshev was an award-winning finalist in the 1995 World Accordion Competition, and Valerie Petrukhin is surrently serving as an honored member of the Sierra Nevada Balalaika Society.
