L.A.: SHELLEY FISHER COMES TO PALM DESERT'S NEWMAN THEATER SUNDAY AT 2 PM
"The Hebrew Hillbilly", written by and performed by singer-songwriter Shelley Fisher will be presented by Les Michaels' Sundays In Summer Series in a one-woman cabaret style concert at a 2:00 pm matinee performance on Sunday, July 7th at THE ARTHUR NEWMAN THEATRE at the JOSLYN CENTER THEATRE (73-750 Catalina Way, Palm Desert, CA - TKTS: 760-325-2731). The show chronicles Ms. Fisher's Hollywood odyssey that begins in the heart of the Mississippi Delta in her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. Shelley grew up surrounded by Rockin' Roll, Blues, and Bar B Que with a flamboyant but very Jewish mother who frowned on her dating the local redneck boys. But that never stopped her dreams from an early age of being a Hollywood star and she has been singing since before she could walk. The show is a deeply personal, yet universally hilarious rollercoaster ride directed by Chris DeCarlo and produced by Debra Ehrhardt, with 14 original songs by Shelley Fisher, Harold Payne, and award-winning and Internationally-known writer Kenneth Hirsch who will also be joining Ms. Fisher as her accompanist for the July 7th show. Mr. Hirsch is behind hits recorded by such artists as Air Supply, Anita Baker, Barbra Streisand, Ray Charles, Celine Dion, Stevie Wonder, Mary J. Blige, Gladys Knight, Harry Connick Jr., Dolly Parton, B.B. King, and Placido Domingo, working with such lyricists as Hal David and Paul Williams. One of Ken's hits, "I've Never Been To Me' recorded by singer Charlene was featured in the movie "Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert" and the stage version is currently selling out on Broadway. His current project, "An Officer And A Gentleman The Musical" debuted in Sydney, Australia and may be heading of a US tour soon. Tickets are $10.
