L.A.: ROBYN SPANGLER RETURNS TO PALM DESERT'S NEWMAN THEATER TODAY AT 2 PM
L.A. cabaret favorite Robyn Spangler will recreate the magic of the Riddle-Ronstadt sound in her new one-woman cabaret style concert "Riddle, Ronstadt, and Robyn" at a 2:00 pm matinee performance at THE ARTHUR NEWMAN THEATRE at the JOSLYN CENTER THEATRE (73-750 Catalina Way, Palm Desert, CA - TKTS: 760-325-2731 - ). In 1982, popular singer Linda Ronstadt planned to record an album of jazz standards and asked bandleader Nelson Riddle if he would write the musical arrangements. Ronstadt felt Riddle was perfect for the job since he had previously worked with one of her idols, Ella Fitzgerald on five albums in the 50s and 60s. Linda and Nelson's collaboration went on to produce three albums together, garnering numerous awards and selling over 7 million copies. Robyn will be joined on piano by her own musical director Todd Schroeder who is quite famous on his own having worked with such stars as Sam Harris, Jason Alexander, Angela Lansbury, Nell Carter, and Rita Coolidge with appearances around the world, including The White House. Together, Robyn and Todd will explore the music from two albums from the Nelson-Ronstadt collaboration, "Lush Life" and "What's New", with songs composed by such greats as George and Ira Gershwin, Sammy Cahn, Jule Styne, Irving Berlin, Bob Haggart, Johnny Mercer, Hoagy Carmichael, Duke Ellington, and Rogers and Hart, and made famous by every major star of the day. $10 tickets cash only.
