TODAY IN NYC: NORA MCCARTHY WITH "LIFE IS A SONG TO SING"
Nora McCarthy brings her show "Life Is A Song To Sing - Music of the Great American Jazz Composers" to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 - ) on Saturday, August 14th at 7:00 pm. Nora McCarthy has thus far had a very productive and significant musical career. A poet and a songwriter in addition to being a singer, she is an important force in the advanced New York jazz vocal scene since 1996 when she recorded her first CD, Red & Blue. Her collaboration with alto-saxophonist Jorge Sylvester began in 2001 and the synergy of their near telepathic level of communication has produced several unique and groundbreaking projects: A Small Dream In Red (voice and saxophone duo), a 20-piece all original music orchestra Conceptual Motion, and the ACE (Afro-Caribbean-Experimental) Collective. Nora has performed with Kuumba Frank Lacy's Vibe Tribe, Lawrence D. "Butch" Morris' A Chorus Of Poets, the Next Legacy Jazz Orchestra, in addition to her own Qu'ART'et. She and her various groups work at the top jazz venues in New York and elsewhere in the world. There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
