NYC: JIM CARUSO'S "CAST PARTY" MONDAYS AT BIRDLANDFEATURED OPEN MIC EVENT

Every Monday night at 9:30 pm, Broadway impresario Jim Caruso hosts "Cast Party", a combination open-mic, networking event and party at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) during which the biggest stars on Broadway relax on their night off by performing their favorite songs in an informal setting. Cast Party is a mix of music, impromptu performance and cocktail party revelry, where showbiz superstars, stunning jazz talents and cabaret glitterati hit the stage alongside up-and-comers to serve up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle. It's the ultimate spot to mix and mingle with talented show folk and their fans. There is a $20 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: DERRICK HODGE PRESENTED BY REVIVE MUSIC

Bassist and composer Derrick Hodge celebrates the release of 'Live Today' at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Monday, November 17th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. Live Today signals a new journey for Hodge as he embarks on a solo recording career. The title alludes to his top guiding principle in creating his debut album, a stunning achievement that showcases the profound depth and breadth of his musicality. Even though Hodge has played with such jazz titans as pianist Mulgrew Miller and trumpeter (and labelmate) Terence Blanchard, as well as R&B stars Jill Scott and Maxwell, the 33-year-old bassist is probably best known for anchoring the Grammy award-winning Robert Glasper Experiment. Similar to how Glasper concocts a distinctive m•lange of modern jazz, hip-hop, and R&B, Live Today too integrates those genres and more into something that's potent and personal. However, it is no Experiment offshoot. Similarities aside, the Live Today asserts a unique sound. There is a $15-$25 cover.

NYC: LEW TABACKIN QUARTET - A CELEBRATION OF COLEMAN HAWKINS

Lew Tabackin Quartet will present 'A Celebration of Coleman Hawkins' at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Monday through Wednesday, November 17th through 19th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Tenor saxophone master Coleman Hawkins (aka "Bean") is one of the most important figures in the stylistic and popular development of jazz. Throughout his influential career - in which he brought the tenor saxophone into its now prominent role in jazz - Hawkins worked with the biggest names in jazz, from Fletcher Henderson's Orchestra and Duke Ellington, to a New York combo he led featuring Thelonious Monk, Oscar Pettiford, Miles Davis, and Max Roach as sidemen. Award-winning saxophonist, flutist, and bandleader Lew Tabackin is known in part for a huge sound and melodic approach to harmony that has drawn comparisons to Hawkins. Ten years ago, Tabackin led The Kennedy Center's much-praised celebration of Hawkins' centennial, and now, a decade later, he comes to Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola to celebrate Bean once again with his superb quartet comprised of Lew Tabackin, tenor saxophone; Peter Washington, bass; Kenny Washington, drums; Richard Wyands, piano. There is a $35 cover.
