BOSTON: KAVITA SHAH AT THE REGATTABAR

Jazz vocalist Kavita Shah will perform at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757 - http://www.regattabarjazz.com/ ) on Tuesday, November 18th at 8:00 pm. Kavita is gaining a reputation as a visionary young singer, composer, and arranger. A native New Yorker of Indian origin fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, and French, Ms. Shah incorporates elements of Indian, Brazilian, and Malian music into her jazz-based repertoire. Her debut CD VISIONS - produced by Benin-born jazz guitarist Lionel Loueke - combines the sounds of the traditional Indian tablas and West African kora with those of a jazz quintet. There is a $20 cover.

TORONTO: JAZZ JAM AND FUNDRAISING FORTIETH BIRTHDAY BASH IN SUPPORT OF MUSICOUNTS

Louisa Labarbera presents a Jazz Jam and Fundraising Fortieth Birthday Bash in support of MusiCounts at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299 - ) on Tuesday, November 18th at 9:00 pm. MusiCounts is Canada's music education charity that is keeping music alive in classrooms and communities. MusiCounts' mission is to ensure that every child in Canada, regardless of social-economic circumstances, has access to music. There will be three sets of live jazz. The first features a playlist of Louisa's choosing, including performances by Pat LaBarbera, Terra Hazelton, Sophia Perlman and many others. The second and third sets with be an open jam led by Chris Gale and a band of amazing musicians. Louisa LaBarbera was born into the Toronto jazz scene. From an early age she spent countless nights enjoying live music, including her father, saxophone player Pat LaBarbera. As she developed her own friendships in the jazz community during her 20s and 30s, her attendance at live music performances only increased. Louisa's work as a jewellery designer has adorned many local as well as international acts, including Sophie Milman, Terra Hazelton, Sophia Perlman, Brandi Disterheft, Christine Jensen and countless others. Her desire for her 40th birthday is to bring the community together for a great cause. This event is open beyond Louisa's friends and family to any and all lovers of live jazz - come to jam or just to celebrate! $20 suggested donation.
