WASHINGTON, DC: JANE MONHEIT WITH "HELLO BLUEBIRD: THE JAZZ OF JUDY GARLAND"

An extraordinarily gifted jazz vocalist whose sincere and romantic interpretations of exceptional songs has made her a favorite in both the jazz and cabaret worlds, Jane Monheit will appear at BLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Thursday through Sunday, September 18th through 21st with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Monheit has garnered numerous accolades in the past decade. Her first album, Never Never Land, was voted top debut recording by the Jazz Journalist's Association and stayed on the Billboard jazz chart for over a year. Subsequent albums either charted high, or in several cases, debuted at number one, and yielded two Grammy nominations in the Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocals category, recognizing the work of Vince Mendoza on In The Sun and Taking A Chance On Love. Her latest project is Hello Bluebird the Jazz of Judy Garland. Call for cover/minimum information.

WASHINGTON, DC: CORY HENRY GROUP AT BOHEMIAN CAVERNS

Cory Henry, a multi-instrumentalist and producer with a catalog worthy of a man twice his age, will perform at BOHEMIAN CAVERNS(2001 Eleventh Street N.W., Washington, DC - 202-299-0800 ) on Friday, September 19th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Henry's primary instrument is the organ, and he began playing at the age of two. At the age of six he competed at the Apollo Theater and made it to the finalist round. In 2010 he co-produced Jay White's Larger than Life. Later that year he released his first album Christmas With You, which featured his lively renditions of Christmas classics and prominently showcased his skill as an improvisor. Kim Burrell's Grammy nominated and Stellar Award winning Love album released in 2011 boasted several tracks that were written and produced by Henry. That year he wrote for and produced much of Krishnar Lewis' One Lover's Trilogy album and released his first, "Leave you alone". He is currently touring with "Snarky Puppy" and lending his considerable talent to the production of several projects for other artists. Call for cover/minimum information.

BETHESDA, MD: PATRICIA BARBER QUARTET

Patricia Barber, American jazz singer, pianist, songwriter and bandleader, will perform at BETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500 ) on Friday, September 19th at 8:30 pm. Born in the Chicago suburbs, Barber came by music naturally. Her father was Floyd "Shim" Barber, a saxophonist who had worked with Glenn Miller's orchestra, and the instrument beguiled young Patricia. She began playing classical piano at the age of 6, but by the time she had graduated high schooL, Barber had foresworn jazz entirely. But the resistance eventually embraced her. Barber's first two albums for Premonition made her an international star: despite the label's tiny size, Barber sold more than 120,000 of the album Modern Cool and even more of the follow-up Nightclub, attracting the attention of Blue Note Records. In 2002, Barber moved into an exclusive contract with Blue Note, recording three albums, including Mythologies, a genre-crashing song cycle based on the writings of the ancient Roman poet Ovid; the project was supported by a Guggenheim Fellowship in composition (the first ever awarded to a non-classical "songwriter"). In recent years, she has released two volumes of music recorded at the Green Mill, available on her own label. There is a $25 cover.
