WASHINGTON, DC: PAUL CARR AND THE "B3 SESSIONS TOUR"

Known for his hard-charging and soulful post-bop style saxophonist Paul Carr performs at BLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Wednesday, September 17th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Carr upholds the important tradition of the Texas tenor. Growing up, he studied and played with local heroes including saxophonist Don Wilkerson, the fabled educator Conrad Johnson, and the legendary Arnett Cobb. He studied two years on a full scholarship to Texas Southern University and completed his degree in music performance Howard University in Washington, DC. Since then, Carr has been based in the DC area performing on the local scene at venues including Blues Alley, Twins Jazz, Takoma Station, and the now-defunct (but once vibrant) One Step Down. Carr has been a repeat performer at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Smithsonian Jazz Cafe, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art's jazz series. Call for cover/minimum information.

BETHESDA, MD: LENA SEIKALY AT BETHESDA BLUES

Lena Seikaly, a fresh voice on the national jazz scene from Washington, DC, will perform at BETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500) on Wednesday, September 17th at 7:30 pm. Lena is already making her mark as both a revivalist of traditional jazz vocals, as well as an innovator in contemporary vocal jazz styles. As the leader of her own trio, quartet and quintet, Lena has performed to sold-out crowds at such legendary DC institutions as Blues Alley, the Strathmore Mansion, the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage, the Carlyle Club, the Hamilton, Twins Jazz, the National Portrait Gallery and other Smithsonian venues, various embassies, and to festivals in Holland, Switzerland, and France. She was a Strathmore Artist-In-Residence in 2009, and is an alum of the prestigious Betty Carter Jazz Ahead residency in Washington, D.C. and Jazz Aspen Snowmass program in Aspen, CO, directed by Christian McBride. There is a $10 cover.
