NYC: SUNDAY OPEN MIC BRUNCH AT THE MET

Sunday Open Mic comes to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on the 2nd & 4th Sundays each month from 12:00 noon to 2:30 pm (signup ay 11:30 am). Presented and hosted by Susan Winter and Deb Berman, the "OPEN MIC AT THE MET" is not your average Open Mic since it will be presented on the iconic stage, with amazing acoustics, high-end equipment, and experienced sound engineer to help create a concert-like experience in Metropolitan Room's friendly, warm environment. Each Open Mic offers different pianists to accompany your performance. There is a $15 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: MOTHERS' DAY BRUNCH WITH SARA GAZAREK

Jazz singer/ songwriter Sara Gazarek will perform at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Sunday, May 11th at 11:30 am and 1:30 pm for the Blue Note's Mothers' Day Brunch show. Championed by some of music's most celebrated figures, Sara Gazarek has emerged as a strikingly original artist with limitless potential. With three highly acclaimed CD's under her belt at the young age of 30, Sara continues to seamlessly combine the intimacy of singer/ songwriter stylings with the musical and improvisational elements of jazz. Blessed with a gorgeous, translucent voice, excellent pitch, and supple sense of time, Gazarek is steeped in the jazz tradition, but is not afraid to embrace the music that moves her generation. There is a $35 cover. **Price includes brunch, music and a drink.

NYC: SUNDAY JAZZ BRUNCH WITH GABRIELLE STRAVELLI

Bistro Award winning vocalist, Gabrielle Stravelli, returns with her Sunday Jazz Brunch on August 11th at LE PESCADEUX (90 Thompson Street, NYC - 212-966-0021), a French restaurant in the heart of Soho. They will play three sets from 12:30 to 4:00 pm. She will be joined by Saul Rubin on guitar and Pat O'Leary on bass in this charming boite that offers a great, well-priced menu and cozy atmosphere. Award-winning vocalist Gabrielle Stravelli has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal following through her unique take on material from the new American songbook as well as classic standards by artists as varied as Pink Floyd and Duke Ellington, Dolly Parton and Johnny Mercer. A trained actor, Gabrielle has a soulful sensitivity for the story in the lyric. Gabrielle has performed on stages from Amsterdam to New York including Carnegie Hall, Iridium Jazz Club, Birdland, and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Reservations are strongly suggested. DESMOND'S STEAKHOUSE (513 Seventh Avenue, NYC - 212-391-6900) presents 'Jazz Brunch' every Sunday from noon to 4:00 pm with Jerry Costanzo & His Trio, with special guests weekly. Dine on their very special and affordable brunch menu while enjoying the best of jazz, swing and "The Great American Song Book". The owner of THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) Colin Hunter, along with renowned jazz pianist Joe Sealy will entertain at Sunday Jazz Brunch on May 11th at 11:00 am. While some people only dream of becoming artists their entire lives, others follow their dream while also pursuing brilliant careers in other fields. Such is the case of crooner Colin Hunter. Colin is the founder, owner and Chairman of the Board of the Sunwing Travel Group, comprising Sunwing Airlines and Sunwing Vacations, one of the most important leisure travel organizations in Canada. His love of music lead him to opening a Toronto Jazz Club - JAZZ BISTRO. Colin and his wife Joan wanted to offer the public a comfortable up-scale jazz club, featuring top names from Toronto and international fame, while enjoying delicious food. Colin can often be found on his stage filling the Club with his laid back crooner classics. Colin has been showcased on the Canadian and world stage several times, and is a favorite on Coleur de Jazz 91.1, and JazzFM in Toronto. BETHESDA, MD: MOTHERS' DAY BRUNCH WITH THE JANINE GILBERT-CARTER QUARTET

Mothers' Day Brunch atBETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500) on Sunday, May 11th at 10:00 am will feature The Janine Gilbert-Carter Quartet. Janine Carter was introduced to Gospel, Jazz and Blues at a very early age by her parents and grandmother. This Pennsylvania native cannot remember a time when music was not a part of her very existence. She began her musical journey like so many contemporary artists as a member of the choir at her church in Aliquippa, PA. She also had the opportunity to expand on her solo performances as a member of the Bach Choir of PA which performed some of Broadways most exciting musicals. Janine continued to use the gift she was given to perform at various functions and special events until she relocated to the Washington, DC Metropolitan area in the summer of 1988. During the summer of 1996 Janine performed her debut concert in the DC area at New Genesis Baptist Church; this celestial songbird has been flying ever since. There is a $40 cover - includes brunch.
