NYC: JASON GRAAE'S "49" SHADES OF GRAAE"

Jason Graae's "49" Shade of Graae" will be presented atBIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Monday, May 12th at 7:00 pm. Jason Graae's "49" Shade of Graae" is an evening with ex-Broadway juvenile turned Hollywood misfit. Jason Graae explores the many "shades" of his life and career ... from hilarity to tragedy all rolled into one madcap, yet heartfelt romp. Jason features old and new songs that explore his life of sex, drugs and musical comedy. This show is directed by Heather Lee with John Boswell as musical director. Jason Graae is currently featured in the York Theatre Company's production of Inventing Mary Martin, and has starred on Broadway in A Grand Night For Singing, Falsettos, Stardust, Snoopy, and Do Black Patent Leather Shows Really Reflect Up? His Off- Broadway shows include Forever Plaid, Olympus on My Mind, All in the Timing, Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh (Drama Desk Nomination-Best Actor in a Musical) and many more. There is a $30 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: MISS COCO PERU: HAVE YOU HEARD?

Miss Coco Peru will bring her newest show 'Have You Heard?' to BIRDLAND(315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080 ) on Monday, May 12th with shows at 7:00 & 9:30 pm. The second show pre-emts Jim Caruso's Cast Party, which will not be held this week. Storyteller/monologist Miss Coco Peru aka Clinton Leupp got her/his start as a downtown favorite in the cabaret world of NY after he wrote, produced, directed, and starred in his first show "Miss Coco Peru in My Goddamn Cabaret" at Eighty Eights over 20 years ago. Coco loves to reminisce. In fact, she's very good at it. In Have You Heard? Coco performs some of her favorite monologues and songs spanning her long career, as well as some new stuff too. Whether you've heard all of these stories, or if you're a Coco virgin, come experience the trailblazing Queen who elevated drag whilst still wearing sensible heels. Coco hosts an on-going live series of shows at the Renberg Theater in Los Angeles called Conversations With Coco in which she interviews and celebrates the lives and careers of the GLBT community's favorite icons. Miss Peru's guests include Liza Minnelli, Jane Fonda, Bea Arthur, Lily Tomlin, Karen Black, Lainie Kazan, Lesley Ann Warren, and drag legend Mr. Charles Busch. There is a $25 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: REVIVE BIG BAND LED BY IGMAR THOMAS

The Revive Da Live Big Band performs at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592 ) on Monday, May 12th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. Formed in 2010, the Big Band began as a kind of idea, where composer, arranger and trumpeter Igmar Thomas wanted to unite generations of like-minded musicians in presenting a new age of big bands. The project has grown to become one of the most exciting and imaginative bands - big or otherwise - in New York. The musical styles, experience, and tastes of Revive's members vary widely, but their collective mission is the same. Revive's repertoire is an authentic gumbo, featuring original compositions by Thomas, as well as epic orchestrations of selected productions from different producers and notable hip-hop songs combined with the original sampled jazz record, all re-imagined and arranged into original works for a big band. The band features Sharel Cassity, alto sax; Tia Fuller alto sax; Patience Higgins bari sax; Tivon Pennicott, tenor sax; Corey 'Ck' King, trombone; James Rodgers, bass trombone; Ryan Resky, trumpet; Lee Hogans, trumpet; Jonathan Powell, trumpet; Mark Whitfield, guitar; Raymond Angry, keys; James Williams, drums; Jonathan M. Michel, bass; Raydar Ellis, vocals and special guest Chris Turner, vocals. There is a $15-$20 cover.

NYC: MONDAY NIGHTS WITH WBGO: ORAN ETKIN CD RELEASE

Clarinetist Oran Etkin will debut his new album, Gathering Light, at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595 ) on Monday, May 12th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. He will be joined by Lionel Loueke, guitar; Ben Allison, bass; Curtis Fowlkes, trombone and Nasheet Waits, drums. The past two years have been an exciting time for Etkin, beginning with a GRAMMY Award for a benefit CD featuring his music, followed by tours to Indonesia, Japan, China, Israel, Belgium, France, and Germany. His music is influenced by frequent collaborations with musicians from different traditions and cultures, and the rich material featured on Gathering Light is inspired by these spontaneous musical exchanges as well as traditional melodies and rhythms. Released by Mot•ma Music, Gathering Light takes its name from an ancient story about how pieces of soulful light, scattered around the earth at the beginning of time, hold the key to mending the world. Live webcast and artist interview with WBGO host Rhonda Hamilton will begin at 7:15 pm on http://www.jalc.org/live. WBGO is proud to partner once again with Dizzy's on Monday Nights with WBGO. The series features talented new artists as well as groups from some of the area's great college jazz programs. Each performance is hosted by WBGO announcer Rhonda Hamilton. There is a $25 cover.
