N.Y.STATE: LONG BEACH LIBRARY HOSTS LIVE PERFORMANCES AND SPECIAL EVENTS
FEATURED CABARET FESTIVAL EVENT

Artists in Partnership (AIP), a non-profit cultural arts organization, will host its 12th Annual Cabaret Festival Thursday through Sunday, May 15th through 18th at THE LONG BEACH PUBLIC LIBRARY (111 West Park Avenue, Long Beach, NY). All performances are FREE to the public. The festival will be a celebration of the cabaret genre honoring the Great American Songbook with performances by renowned local and New York City-based artists. On Friday, May 16th at 7:30 pm, "... Reappearing In My Mind" featuring Miles Phillips with musical director Jason Wynn at the piano. This event is made possible with public funds from the Long Beach Public Library.

BOSTON: ANITA COELHO BRAZILIAN ENSEMBLE

Medici Musica presents The Anita Coelho Brazilian Ensemble at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Friday, May 16th at 7:30 pm. Bossa Nova vocalist Anita Coelho returns once again to the Regattabar, bringing with her the incomparable chops of her Brazilian Ensemble with Alexei Tsiganov on Piano, Fernando Huergo on Bass and Renato Malavasi on Drums, now joined by very special guests; Mike Turk on Harmonicas and Ebinho Cardoso on both vocals and 6-string Piccolo Bass and a special duet with Brazilian guitar virtuoso, Marcio Philomena on Guitar. Coelho is known for her sultry interpretations and contemporary arrangements of swinging Bossa Nova and Samba compositions from renowned composers Antonio Carlos Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes, Carlos Lyra, Marita Rita, Milton Nascimento, and many more. Joined by her ensemble of expert players, praised for their remarkable solos and delicate renditions of Brazilian music, Anita Coelho Brazilian Ensemble incorporates Coelho's powerful vocals with the mesmerizing rhythms and distinctive melodies of the rich music culture of Brazil to bring us the very best in Brazilian music. BOSTON: CHRISTIAN MCBRIDE TRIO "OUT HERE" CD RELEASE

The Christian McBride Trio will present "Out Here" atSCULLERS JAZZ CLUB(400 Soldiers Field Road, Allston, MA - 617-562-4111) on Friday, May 16th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm to celebrate the release of their latest CD. Bassist extraodinaire, composer, arranger, educator, curator and administrator, Christian McBride, has been one of the most important and most omnipresent figures in the jazz world for 20 years. TORONTO: THE P.J. PERRY QUARTET AT THE JAZZ BISTRO

The P.J. Perry Quartet (PJ Perry - saxophone, Dave Restivo - piano, Neil Swainson - bass, Terry Clarke - drums) will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Thursday through Saturday, May 15th through Saturday at 9:00 pm. PJ Perry has shared the stage with countless jazz greats such as Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Shaw, Michel LeGrand, Pepper Adams, Kenny Wheeler, Tom Harrell, Rob McConnell, Slide Hampton, Herb Spanier, Bobby Shew, Fraser McPherson, Tommy Banks, Joe LaBarbera, Clarence "Big" Miller, Red Rodney and many more talented artists, to numerous to list here. Winner of a 1993 Juno Award for Best Jazz Recording for his album "My Ideal", P.J. has received Jazz Report magazine's Critic's Choice Award for Best Alto Sax for, a record, of seven years from 1993 to 1999. In autumn of 1999 Justin Time Records released a Juno nominated recording of P.J. and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. P.J. Perry has become recognized by critics, colleagues and listeners as being one of North America's premier saxophonists. In 2007 P.J. was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Alberta. Recently, he was a featured soloist on the hit 2010 Broadway production of Come Fly Away, highlighting the songs link to Canadian Encyclopedia of Frank Sinatra and the choreography of Twyla Tharpe. WASHINGTON DC: ARTURO SANDOVAL AT BLUES ALLEY

Arturo Sandoval will perform at BLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Friday through Sunday, May 16th through 18th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Sandovol is fluent in at least four musical languages. He can burn through an Afro-Cuban groove, tear up a bebop tune, soar over a Mozart concerto and sooth you with a luscious ballad; with equal power and grace. Granted political asylum in July 1990 and US citizenship in 1999, Sandoval and his family now call Los Angeles home. A protege of the legendary jazz master Dizzy Gillespie, Sandoval was born in Artemisa, a small town in the outskirts of Havana, Cuba, on November 6, 1949, just two years after Gillespie became the first musician to bring Latin influences into American Jazz. WASHINGTON, DC: KRIS BOWERS HEROES & MISFITS CD RELEASE

Pianist and composer Kris Bowers will celebrate the release of his new CD 'Heroes & Misfits' on Fridat & Saturday, May 16th & 17th atBOHEMIAN CAVERNS(2001 Eleventh Street N.W., Washington, DC - 202-299-0800). Bowers makes genre-bending jazz that touches upon contemporary R&B, electronica, and forward-thinking modal improvisation. He won first place in the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition. That same year, he showcased his versatility by appearing on Jay-Z and Kanye West's collaborative album, Watch the Throne. In 2014, Bowers released his experimental jazz, R&B, and electronic-influenced debut album Heroes & Misfits on Concord. Call for cover/minimum information.

BETHESDA, MD: JOEL DEL ROSARIO AND SUREWILL "SIDE BY SIDE LIVE"

Joel Del Rosario and Surewill will present "Side By Side Live" atBETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500) on Friday, May 16th at 8:00 pm. Producers Joel Del Rosario and Surewill have had a long history of successfully writing and performing music for various artists throughout their professional careers. Having shared the stage with artists such as: George Duke, Sade, Neyo, Janet Jackson and Al Jarreau countless others (of different music genres), they've been able to create a distinct sound all their own. And with their current release, "Side by Side", both musicians have been drawing the attention of listeners and fans worldwide. Telling the story of their friendship musically, they combine their gospel roots with: jazz, blues, classical, and R&B, tickling listeners' ears and eyes everywhere at their electrifying "Side by Side Live" performances.
