BOSTON: DARRELL NULISCH SINGS THE BLUES AT THE REGATTABAR
Blues singer Darrell Nulisch will perform at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Friday, September 5th at 7:30 pm. After over 35 years as a mainstay performer of American Blues and Soul Music, they've said it all. From the honkytonks of Texas and Louisiana, to Jazz at Lincoln Center, to virtually touring the world with his own band and others: Darrell Nulisch has left an indelible mark. Beginning his recording career in Dallas in the late seventies he has recorded and produced seven solo CD's and has appeared as a guest artist on recordings with an impressive array of 'Blues luminaries,' most recently the Grammy nominated, new release by James Cotton, "Cottonmouth Man". Sharing vocal responsibilities with the likes of Greg Allman, Delbert McClinton, Keb Mo, and James himself. In addition to the Grammy nod, James and "Cotton Mouth Man" has received five National Blues Foundation nominations including "Song of the Year" which Darrell sang. There is a $20 cover.
BOSTON: JEFF LORBER FUSION WITH ERIC MARIENTHAL AT SCULLERS
Keyboardist/ composer/ producer Jeff Lorber, returns to SCULLERS JAZZ CLUB(400 Soldiers Field Road, Allston, MA - 617-562-4111) on Friday, September 5th at 8:00 pm with his GRAMMY-nominated power trio the Jeff Lorber Fusion, featuring saxophonist Eric Marienthal. Since the late 1970s, this contemporary jazz collective has blended elements of jazz, funk, rock, R&B and world music into a distinctive sound that has connected with audiences from a variety of continents, cultures and generations. In more recent years, the group's studio efforts such as their 2010 release, Now Is the Time (2010) and Galaxy (2012), influenced by extensive touring throughout Europe and Asia, have been colored with vibrant shades of dance and house music. TORONTO: THE ANDREW CRAIG QUARTET AT THE JAZZ BISTRO
Celebrated vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, producer, director and broadcaster Andrew Craig debuts a new musical sound with his all-star quartet at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Thursday through Saturday, September 3rd through 6th at 9:00 pm. Craig has long searched for the nexus point between jazz, blues, R & B, funk, Gospel and music of the African continent. His latest songs come closest to reaching that nexus point, and he is excited to debut them in public for the first time. Craig is thrilled to be supported by a world-class trio of musicians: Paa Joe - guitar, Rich Brown - bass and Altaf Vellani - drums and percussion. Andrew Craig creates and performs original music, directs orchestras and musical productions, produces albums, radio, and television, and composes for theatre. He's worked with artists such as Molly Johnson, Wynton Marsalis, Measha Bruggergosman and Kellylee Evans, opened for Bobby McFerrin, directed tributes to Oscar Peterson and Quincy Jones, and performed twice for Nelson Mandela. There is a $12-$15 cover.
TORONTO: YOUNG ARTIST SERIES: KRISTIAN PODLACHA
Kristian Podlacha will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299 - ) on Thursday through Saturday, September 4th, 5th & 6th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm as part of the club's Young Artist Series. Born into a musical family, Kristian started studying piano at 7 and was writing classically by 8. Early exposure to Oscar Peterson and Django Reinhardt caused him to fall deeply in love with jazz, a style of music that has shaped his life. Since then, he has explored and performed swing, French jazz manouche, contemporary jazz, and classical music. The result is a highly personal sound blending the harmony of French impressionists Ravel and Debussy with the passion of jazz manouche; all placed within the sophistication of modern jazz. He is currently studying piano at the University of Toronto with scholarship. There is no cover.
