NYC: BARRET IS BACK ON RESTAURANT ROW
Chris Barrett returns to LA RIVISTA RISTORANTE (313 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-366-4603) on Monday, May 19th, where he will be at the piano Mondays through Wednesdays. There are two shows nightly, a dinner show at 8:00 and a supper show at 10:00 pm. Chris Barrett's performances are in the tradition of the great late-night boites of a fondly remembered era, when the likes of Hugh Shannon, Bobby Short, and Buddy Barnes manned the keyboard. NYC: JAZZ LEGEND ANNIE ROSS TUESDAYS THE METROPOLITAN ROOM
Jazz legend Annie Ross continues her unprecedented, record-breaking, multi-year run at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), every Tuesday night at 9:30 pm. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. Annie Ross is one of the pioneers of vocalese and the composer of "Twisted", one of the most well known examples of that art, as well as "Farmers Market", "Jackie" and many others. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese. "Twisted" has been recorded by a host of vocalists, including some not normally associated with jazz, including Joni Mitchell and Bette Midler. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: CAROL DALY & RHONDA DENET WITH "ELEGANT ELLA"
Rhonda Denet joins Carol Daly on Tuesday, September 2nd at 7:00 pm at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) to pay tribute to the eternally elegant first lady of song, Ella Fitzgerald. Their show "Elegant Ella" will include solo and duet performances of some of their favorites. They will be joined by Frank Pisani on piano, Chuck Batton on drums and John Smith on guitar. Carol Daly performs in cabaret clubs, restaurants, culture festivals and artistic and community driven venues and events. Rhonda Denet makes a full time living doing what she loves by creating opportunities to celebrate and share joyful music. She appears regularly throughout the tri-state region with the Silver Fox Songs showcase series. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: UTE LEMPER AT 54 BELOW
54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) presents renowned international chanteuse and star of Broadway's Chicago Ute Lemper for a return engagement on Tuesday through Saturday, September 2nd through 6th at 7:00 pm. The journey starts in Berlin with Ute's repertoire of Brecht and Weill and classic cabaret songs and travels to the poetic universe of Jacques Brel & Edith Piaf. Then, join Ute's voyage as she continues to Argentina and Tango Nuevo and walks the backstreets of Paris, Berlin, Buenos Aires and New York, where she's made her home for fifteen years now. Discover musical ghosts who have their own tales of loss, love, passion, survival, rebellion & opposition to tell. There is a $40-$60 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
NYC: ADAM B. SHAPIRO WITH 'NOTHING NORMAL' AT 54 BELOW
Making his 54 Below debut, Adam B. Shapiro, the bearded, leather-loving teddy bear Bella from HBO's The Normal Heart, will bring his show 'Nothing Normal' to 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Tuesday, September 2nd at 9:30 pm. The 2013 MAC Award winner for Musical Comedy, Adam premieres his newest show Nothing Normal, an eclectic mix of songs and stories celebrating the hilarious and precarious sides of life, including some anecdotes from behind the scenes of the movie. Joining Adam for a special guest appearance will be Danielle Ferland, Broadway's original Little Red Riding Hood in Into The Woods as well as Sunday in the Park with George, A Little Night Music, All My Sons, and HBO's The Normal Heart. Working with Barry Levitt (Musical Director) and Peter Napolitano (Director), and the Barry Levitt Trio, Adam promises an evening of smiles and surprises, showing that, while he might not be normal, he's got a lot of heart. There is a $25-$35 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
