NYC: LINDA LAVIN IN "EVERY TIME'S THE FIRST TIME!" FEATURING BILLY STRITCH

Linda Lavin brings her show "Every Time's The First Time!" featuring Billy Stritch to BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Monday, July 14th at 7:00 pm as part of the clubs Broadway At Birdland series. This concert will give audiences a chance to meet Broadway and television star Linda Lavin up-close and personal as she recalls her roots in the theater, her love of torch songs, and a life-long obsession with the big bands of the 1940's. Linda's varied musical choices range from Cole Porter to Trisha Yearwood, and the musical relationship with pianist/singer Billy Stritch only adds to the party atmosphere this hostess-with-the-mostess exudes. Drummer Steve Bakunas will join Stritch in the band. Linda Lavin is currently starring in Too Much Sun at the Vinyard Theatre. She first burst on the New York musical comedy scene with roles in Oh, Kay!, It's a Bird...It's a Plane...It's Superman and On a Clear Day, You Can See Forever. She also won kudos for her straight acting roles in Little Murders and Last of the Red Hot Lovers. TV beckoned and she soon became a household name as the star of the sitcom "Alice." During the nine seasons it was on the air, Linda nabbed two Golden Globe awards and an Emmy nomination. She even sang "There's a New Girl inTown" over the opening credits of the show. Following this success, she focused her attentions once again on the stage. She earned renewed respect, in addition to critic's awards, for her diversified Broadway work in Gypsy, The Sisters Rosensweig, Collected Stories, Broadway Bound (1987 Tony award), Death Defying Acts (Obie award), The Diary of Anne Frank (Tony nomination), The Tale of the Allergist's Wife(Tony nomination), Other Desert Cities and The Lyons. She also appeared in Carol Burnett's autobiographical play Hollywood Arms portraying Burnett's grandmother, and in Paul Rudnick's The New Century at Lincoln Center. An award-winning composer and performer, Billy Stritch has produced, arranged forand sung onstage with world-renowned icons including Liza Minnelli, Christine Ebersole, Marilyn Maye and Charles Aznavour, and was a guest conductor for The Rosie O'Donnell Show. There is a $35-$45 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: JIM CARUSO'S "CAST PARTY" MONDAYS AT BIRDLANDFEATURED OPEN MIC EVENT

Every Monday night at 9:30 pm, Broadway impresario Jim Caruso hosts "Cast Party", a combination open-mic, networking event and party atBIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) during which the biggest stars on Broadway relax on their night off by performing their favorite songs in an informal setting. Cast Party is a mix of music, impromptu performance and cocktail party revelry, where showbiz superstars, stunning jazz talents and cabaret glitterati hit the stage alongside up-and-comers to serve up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle. It's the ultimate spot to mix and mingle with talented show folk and their fans. There is a $20 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: JOE GRANSDEN BIG BAND AT THE BLUE NOTE

Joe Gransden will perform at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Monday, July 14th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. Gransden has performed worldwide and released ten CDs under his own name. Renowned first for the hard bop approach of his trumpet, Gransden's singing voice has been compared to that of Chet Baker and Frank Sinatra. He is from New York City and comes from a family full of musicians. Joe's introduction to music came early on through his father, a gifted singer and pianist. His grandfather was a trumpeter of merit, playing professionally his whole life throughout New York and on his mother's side was the piano virtuoso Carmen Cavallero. Fellow musicians across the country hear a talented trumpet player whose ace in the hole is a well-developed voice. But around Atlanta and New York Joe is also a well-respected human being, a nice guy who treats people fairly. He has always managed to keep every aspect of his career and life in balance. In this tempestuous decade, Joe's lyricism is like a breath of fresh air. There is a $10-$15 cover.

NYC: IGOR BUTMAN AND THE MOSCOW JAZZ ORCHESTRA

Igor Butman and the Moscow Jazz Orchestra will perform atDIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Sunday through Wednesday, July 13th through 16th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. The 16-piece Moscow Jazz Orchestra is led by Russia's most popular and esteemed jazzman, saxophonist Igor Butman. Butman is a firm proponent of cross-border and cross-genre collaborations with top artists, including Wynton Marsalis, Mike Stern, and Bill Evans. He has also successfully collaborated with the GRAMMY Award-winning conductor, violinist, and violist Yuri Bashmet's Moscow Soloists chamber orchestra. The Moscow Jazz Orchestra's intensive schedule includes regular tours in the United States and prestigious jazz festivals in Europe and Asia.
