HERNDON, VA: NEXTSTOP THEATRE SUMMER CABARET SERIES - LAST HAM STANDING
NextStop Theatre Company has announced the next bold, new offering in their ambitious inaugural season atNEXTSTOP THEATRE (269 Sunset Park Drive, Herndon, VA - 866-811-4111). Under the leadership of Series Producer, area based performing artist Jim Van Slyke, the company will present eighteen intimate concerts, featuring a eclectic mixture of Broadway stars, nationally acclaimed cabaret artists and some of the finest local singers in the DC Metropolitan area. Running from Friday, July 11th to Saturday, August 16th in the company's 114-seat black box theatre, audiences will be invited to grab a drink or snack from the bar and be transported for evenings featuring classics from musical theatre, jazz, rock, soul and even current hits. On Saturday, July 19th at 8:00 pm, Last Ham Standing will be presented at NextStop. Herndon's new kings & queens of comedy return for another hilarious night of improv theatre.

WASHINGTON, DC: SOUL LEGEND JEAN CARNE AT BLUES ALLEY
Soul Legend Jean Carne performs at BLUES ALLEY(1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Thursday through Sunday, July 17th through 20th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Jean was often praised for being one of the first Afro-American women to control her musical stylings and not be controlled by the industry moguls. Jean performed with Duke Ellington, the last vocalist to do so before his death. She then teamed up with Norman Connors for four highly regarded sets, contributed 'Reach For it' to George Duke's Gold album and sang lead vocals on the first two albums by Earth, Wind And Fire. The four albums she recorded for Philadelphia International are considered her finest and introduced Jean to pop and R & B audiences for the first time. Call for cover/minimum information.
WASHINGTON, DC: LONNIE LISTON SMITH AT BOHEMIAN CAVERNS
Lonnie Liston Smith will perform atBOHEMIAN CAVERNS (2001 Eleventh Street N.W., Washington, DC - 202-299-0800) on Friday & Saturday, July 18th & 19th at with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm and Sunday, July 20th at with shows at 7:00 & 9:00 pm. Lonnie Liston Smith is one of contemporary music's most versatile musicians. In a career that spans some 25 years, he has been headlined in a variety of recordings as a featured sideman for some of Jazz music's most illustrious leader's before stepping out to reveal his own original concepts as a bandleader in the mid 70s. Lonnie made several contributions to the work of artists of the time such as Ethel Ennis, Betty Carter, Blakey's Jazz Messengers, Max Roach and Rahsaan Roland Kirk and Miles Davis. He is a keyboardist of the first rank and has influenced a generation of young players who have acknowledged his rhythmic (swing), harmonic acumen and composing skills. Early in his musical career, Lonnie learned about the magical, healing power of music. Since that impressionable time, he has cultivated a rich musical mosaic which he hopes has helped to expand the consciousness, and raise the moral values of Planet Earth's humanity. BETHESDA, MD: PHILLIP 'DOC' MARTIN & FRIENDS AT BETHESDA BLUES
Nationally renowned saxophonist Phillip 'Doc' Martin & Friends featuring Chelsey Green will perform at BETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB(7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500) on Saturday, July 19th at 8:00 pm as a follow up his sell out January performance celebrating the release of his hit CD, "Good Day At Work". Doc's surgical precision on Sax will once again be on display along with some of his talented friends. Chelsey Green and the Green project joins him and will definitely get the crowd energized as she brings her classical training and high energy performance to the party. There is a $30 cover.
