NYC: BARRET IS BACK ON RESTAURANT ROW
Chris Barrett returns to LA RIVISTA RISTORANTE (313 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-366-4603) on Monday, May 19th, where he will be at the piano Mondays through Wednesdays. There are two shows nightly, a dinner show at 8:00 and a supper show at 10:00 pm. Chris Barrett's performances are in the tradition of the great late-night boites of a fondly remembered era, when the likes of Hugh Shannon, Bobby Short, and Buddy Barnes manned the keyboard. There is no cover charge.
NYC: JAZZ LEGEND ANNIE ROSS TUESDAYS THE METROPOLITAN ROOM
Jazz legend Annie Ross continues her unprecedented, record-breaking, multi-year run at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), every Tuesday night at 9:30 pm. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. Annie Ross is one of the pioneers of vocalese and the composer of "Twisted", one of the most well known examples of that art, as well as "Farmers Market", "Jackie" and many others. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese. "Twisted" has been recorded by a host of vocalists, including some not normally associated with jazz, including Joni Mitchell and Bette Midler. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: AUDREY SILVER AT THE METROPOLITAN ROOM
Jazz vocalist Audrey Silver will perform at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Tuesday, July 15th at 7:00 pm. Steeped in the tradition of the jazz greats, Audrey Silver's sound evokes the sultriness of a Chris Connor and the warmth and approachability of a Doris Day. Her inventive improvising and unexpected arrangements brings freshness and originality to Audrey's interpretations of the American Songbook. Audrey's steady stream of appearances ' including recent performances at the Tanglewood Jazz Festival and New York's prestigious JVC Jazz Festival ' have made her more sought after than ever. Based in New York City, she regularly performs at numerous venues including 55 Bar, Bargemusic, Sweet Rhythm, Cleopatra's Needle, and The Kitano Hotel. She has become a familiar face at the Metropolitan Room and recently completed a five-month engagement at Bruno Jamais Restaurant and Club. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: LARA TEETER MAKES NYC CABARET DEBUT AT 54 BELOW
Tony nominee and Broadway veteran Lara Teeter makes his New York City cabaret debut at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Tuesday, July 15th at 7:00 pm. He will be sharing his journey as artist, teacher, husband and dad. Broadway credits include On Your Toes (Tony nomination), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Happy New Year, and The Pirates of Penzance. Other credits include: the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz at The Madison Square Garden, Don Lockwood in the national tour of Singin' in the Rain, Will Parker in the national tour of Oklahoma!, Buddy Plummer in Follies at the Barrington Stage Company, Steven Kodaly in She Loves Me at the Ahmanson Theatre in L.A., and Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady at the North Shore Music Theatre. Other credits: The New York City Opera's Naughty Marietta and The Most Happy Fella at Lincoln Center; Lyric Opera of Chicago's Street Scene; Carnegie Hall portraying Henry Higgins in a tribute to the work of Lerner and Loewe, and, most recently, Show Boat with both Houston Grand Opera and Washington's National Opera Theatre, directed by Francesca Zambello. Broadway veterans Mitchell Jarvis and Wesley Taylor launch Season 2 over their critically-acclaimed "IT COULD BE WORSE" web series at 54 BELOW(254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Tuesday, July 15th at 9:30 pm. After winning a slew of online indie awards and raising over 70K on Kickstarter to shoot a second season, the "awesomely addictive" dark comedy was acquired for cable television. The all-star cast is comprised of Taylor, Jarvis, Adam Chanler-Berat, Gideon Glick, Alison Fraser, with recurring cast members Nancy Opel, Roger Rees, Stephanie J. Block, Paris Remillard, Sebastian Arcelus, and guest stars like Audra McDonald, Megan Hilty, Katharine McPhee, Laura Benanti, Brian D'arcy James, Jeremy Jordan, and Debra Messing. Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks are back - and now will play every Monday & Tuesday night from 8:00 to 11:00 pm at at IGUANA'S VIP LOUNGE (240 West 54th Street, NYC - 212-765-5454). Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks is an eleven-piece band playing music of the 1920s & 30s for your dining and dancing pleasure. In 1976 Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks (originally known as the New Orleans Nighthawks) was formed. A big-band historian and collector, Giordano has more than 60,000 scores in his collection. There is a $15 cover (at the door) plus a $15 food drink minimum.
