Cyrille's culturally rich background has supplied her with the driving force of Dominican rhythm and the incredible swing of the French Gypsies. Cyrille's hybrid of influences has resulted in a sound that's fresh, enlivening and guaranteed to enthrall. Cyrille was born in Fontainebleau, France, to a French father and Dominican mother. Her introduction to jazz was the result of the fortuitous location of her upbringing, the village Samois-sur-Seine, the same place where the gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt, among the most revered and legendary guitarists of all time, once lived. Over the last several decades in June, gypsies from throughout Europe descend upon Samois-sur-Seine, setting up caravans in nearby meadows for the annual Django Reinhardt Festival. A young, curious Cyrille wandered into the encampments and fell in love with gypsy music and way of life. She was the winner of the Montreux Jazz Festival's International Vocal Competition, the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition and a finalist in the Thelonious Monk Vocal Competition. Tickets are $25-$55 cover plus a $12 food/drink minimum.
