ST. LOUIS: GASLIGHT CABARET FESTIVAL PRESENTS LARA TEETER
St. Louis's and Broadway's Own Lara Teeter will sing Porter, Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart and much more to bring to a close the GASLIGHT CABARET FESTIVAL (358 North Boyle Street, Louis MO - 314-725-4200 EXT 10) on Friday & Saturday, April 25th & 26th at 8:00 pm. Lara Teeter makes his St. Louis cabaret debut, sharing his journey as artist, teacher, husband and dad. Claimed by both St. Louis and Broadway (a Tony Nominee) as one of its own, Lara Teeter plans to show just how fresh the songbook is in a master song and dance man's hands. His performing resume includes Broadway credits: On Your Toes (Tony nomination), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and The Pirates of Penzance. Off-Broadway and national touring credits: the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz, The Robber Bridegroom, She Loves Me, My Fair Lady, Little Shop of Horrors, Singin' in the Rain, Follies, and Oklahoma!. PALM SPRINGS: ALEC MAPA AT THE COPA
With uproarious live performances and ground breaking television roles, actor and comedian Alec Mapa has entertained audiences worldwide in every imaginable medium. Now Alec Mapa comes to THE COPA (244 East Amado Road, Palm Springs CA - 760-866-0021) Thursday & Friday, April 24th & 25th at 7:30 pm. Alec's television career has gone from desperate to ugly with not one but two recurring roles on ABC's "Desperate Housewives" and "Ugly Betty". On Wisteria Lane Alec is known as Gabriel Solis' personal shopper "Vern" . On "Ugly Betty no gossip report would be complete without the latest from Alec as fashion reporter extraordinaire "Suzuki St. Pierre". Audiences first discovered Alec on Broadway in the Tony Award winning production of "M. Butterfly". He guest starred on over 40 television series, including Alias, Friends, Roseanne, Seinfeld and NYPD Blue. Alec played network television's very first gay asian series regular role on the short lived CBS sitcom "Some Of My Best Friends". He then starred in four seasons of the UPN sitcom "Half and Half". Film audiences howled at Alec as "N'Cream" in the wildly popular drag queen musical "Connie and Carla". Other films include "Playing By Heart " ,"Marley and Me" and "You Don't Mess with The Zohan" .Alec's "Wisecrack " stand up comedy special premiered on LOGO in 2005 and has since gained a huge cult following. LOS ANGELES: WEST COAST COOL WITH BENTYNE & WINKLER
On Friday, April 25th at 6:00 pm, at THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART (5905 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA - 323-857-6000), award-winning and critically acclaimed jazz vocalist/ lyricist Mark Winkler pairs up with multi-Grammy Award•winning vocalist Cheryl Bentyne, a member of the Manhattan Transfer, to form a dynamic duo that examines the "West Coast Cool" jazz scene of the 1950s. Together and separately they perform songs by Dave Brubeck, Chet Baker, Julie London and Bobby Troup (to name a few). Free and open to the public.
LOS ANGELES: THE GARDENIA PRESENTS LZ LOVE
Vocalist, percussionist, and songwriter, LZ Love performs at THE GARDENIA (7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444) on Friday, April 25th at 9:00 pm. LZ Love has sung and toured with James Brown, Mary Wells, Joan Armatrading, Billy Preston (the 5th Beatle), Parliament Funkadelic, Luther Vandross, and Sylvester - to name only a few. Her solo song, "Lift Me Up" reached number two on the European dance charts, and she had several more dance singles hits in the UK from 1999 to 2005.
