NYC: SUNDAY JAZZ BRUNCH WITH GABRIELLE STRAVELLI
Bistro Award winning vocalist, Gabrielle Stravelli, returns with her Sunday Jazz Brunch on August 11th at LE PESCADEUX (90 Thompson Street, NYC - 212-966-0021), a French restaurant in the heart of Soho. They will play three sets from 12:30 to 4:00 pm. She will be joined by Saul Rubin on guitar and Pat O'Leary on bass in this charming boite that offers a great, well-priced menu and cozy atmosphere. Award-winning vocalist Gabrielle Stravelli has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal following through her unique take on material from the new American songbook as well as classic standards by artists as varied as Pink Floyd and Duke Ellington, Dolly Parton and Johnny Mercer. A trained actor, Gabrielle has a soulful sensitivity for the story in the lyric. Gabrielle has performed on stages from Amsterdam to New York including Carnegie Hall, Iridium Jazz Club, Birdland, and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Reservations are strongly suggested. No cover, no minimum.
NYC: EAST MEETS WEST BRUNCH SERIES: ERIKA MATSUO
New York-based, Japanese jazz vocalist, Erika Matsuo will perform at THE BLUE NOTE(131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Sunday, March 16th at 11:30 am & 1:30 pm as part of the club's East Meets West Brunch Series. Matsuo burst on to the international jazz scene in 2010 with her self-produced debut CD, Obsession (ErikaJazz). A sensual sojourn through American, Brazilian and original songs, Obsession featured jazz stars Romero Lubambo, Carlton Holmes, Freddie Bryant, Paulo Levi, Yosvany Terry, Essiet Essiet, Willard Dyson and Nanny Assis, providing the perfect support for Erika's beautiful voice. And now, with her sophomore outing, True Colors (Disc Union, 2013) - another sublime mix of American and Brazilian standards, plus two Japanese-themed originals and Toru Takemitsu's 'Meguriai' - she has more than fulfilled the early promise of her debut. Based in New York, she has performed at many of city's top venues, including BB Kings, Sweet Rhythm, the Kitano, S.O.B.'s and the Blue Note, and regularly tours Japan, where she recently appeared on the popular national TV show, Woman on the Planet. TORONTO: SUNDAY BRUNCH WITH WIBI AT THE JAZZ BISTRO
Wibi will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Sunday, March 16th at 12:30 pm as part of the club's Sunday Brunch series. Wibi is an innovative and eclectic contemporary a cappella ensemble founded in 1988 at York University. 2014 marks Wibi's 26th year! This semi-professional student group has reveled in exploring a broad range of musical styles with a focus on popular music. Wibi has shared the stage with Grammy award winner Ben Folds, Juno award winners The Nylons, as well as Cadence, Retrocity, and many others. The group has alumni in notable acts including the Swingle Singers, Countermeasure, and the Nathaniel Dett Chorale. There is a $15 cover.
